It was parent teacher conference today and school let out at one thirty. Mrs. Way said it was okay for Pete to hang out while she went to meet their teachers, making Gerard want to go to Frank's, but he couldn't because Mikey and Pete couldn't be left home alone. After a lot of convincing, Gerard finally managed to get his mom to let Frank stay as well.
Mikey was so very excited to have all of his best friends over at the same time! He felt so grown up to not have his mommy there and just Gerard and Frank.
"I have a game idea we can play!" Mikey said happily after they had all gathered in the living room.
"What's your idea, Mikey?" Gee asked. Mikey jumped on the couch and stood between Gerard and Frank.
"We can pretend you are our mom and dad and Petey can be me and I can be Gerard and then it really will be like there are grown ups here!" Mikey said happily. Gerard shrugged.
"Yeah but dad doesn't live here anymore, Mikey. So we can't play that," Gerard said. Mikey thought some more.
"Well then we can pretend we are at Frankie's house!" He said happily.
"But I don't have any brothers or sisters," he said. Mikey sat between the two and frowned. He could have sworn his first idea was better.
"We can pretend to be in a rock band?" Pete said from his spot on the carpet, making a little toy horse gallop around. Frank nodded excitedly.
"Yeah that sounds cool! When I grow up I'm gonna be in a band and it's going to be the best one ever," he said. Gerard nodded.
"Yeah. I'm going to be in the band with him," he added, resting his arm over Frank's shoulders. Mikey and Pete both gasped.
"Can I be in your band too?" Mikey asked. Pete jumped up to his feet and hurried to the other three on the couch.
"What kind of band?" He asked. Gerard shrugged.
"Rock and roll duh," Frank said. Pete breathed a 'woah' before picking his horse back up.
"I still think we should play rockstars. You know, to practice for when we're older," Gerard said, standing up, followed by Mikey and Frank. Pete sat on the coffee table and looked at them.
"Can I play guitar?" Frank asked. His mom had started taking him to lessons, so he really wanted to play. Gerard nodded.
"Can I play guitar too?" Mikey asked. Gerard shook his head.
"No, there can only be one guitar in bands duh everyone knows that," he said. Mikey frowned and looked at Pete.
"What other instruments are there?" He asked, sitting and kicking his feet against the couch. Gerard looked at Frank who knew more about music than the rest of them.
"Um, drums, piano, tambourine, saxophone, bass, ukulele, and tunas. Oh and trumpets. That's all of the instruments," he said with a nod. Mikey clapped.
"What's a tuna? I thought that was a chicken," Pete asked, remembering the tuna cans at his old friend's house that said Chicken of the Sea.
"No they're fish. Also they are really big thingys that you put on and you blow in one side an it goes whaaaaa!" Frank said, making a goose noise and gaining the laughter of his friends.
"What's a tambourine?" Pete asked.
"They're like, short drums with tss tss bits on them that go pshhhh! pshhhhh! when you shake them," Frank explained.
"What's a q-kal-ay-lee?" Pete asked.
"They're baby guitars but they have four strings and are higher in pitch," Frank explained, he knew everything about instruments.
