Louis' POV

"So, you wanna come over tonight for some studying?" I asked Nikki after school. We had all the same classes and I think she was really warming up to me. I glanced at her.

"Sure, why not?" She replied. "I'll just ask my dad first," she pulled out her phone.

"Cool," I flashed a smile at her. I know it's only been one day, but I think I might like her. She's funny, smart, and definitely pretty. But then again, you never know with girls like her.

"He said yes! I just have to be back home by 10," she answered happily.

"Okay, great. My car is in the parking lot. I'll pull it up, you can just wait here," I offered.

"Wow, what a gentleman," she teased.

"Oh please, just wait til you get to know me," I laughed along as I walked away. Did I really just score a date with new girl Nikki? Didn't see that coming.

Nikki's POV

When Louis asked me to come over, I didn't know what to think. I only knew him for like, less than a day, and he's inviting me over? Is this some kind of date or something? I had no idea. I just decided to keep calm and say yes. I mean, what else was i supposed to do? Reject him? Whatever. We're just studying, right?

I heard a horn honk and I looked up from my phone.

"Gosh, you have a really nice car," I told him as I climbed into the front seat.

"Eh, it's okay. I got it for a really cheap price."

"This?" I gestured around at the leather seats, "This is not a car you can get for whatever you call a 'cheap price.' "

"You have no idea how good of a negotiator I am," he smirked.

Louis seemed to be a really nice guy. He reminded me a lot of my boyfriend, or ex boyfriend, Brad, in LA. And I guess he seemed to like me. Maybe a little? I was never good at judging boys' emotions.

"Are we really going to study?" I blurted once we were on the road.

He looked startled. "Um, yeah, I guess. If you want," he eyed me and grinned. I knew what he was thinking. He had no intention of studying at all.

"Uhh, well whatever's good with you," I replied awkwardly. I mean, yeah Louis is a lot like my ex, but still.  I thought of him as a friend. And plus I'd only known him for a day!

We rode the rest of the way in silence. A very awkward silence.

About 10 minutes later we pulled into a cute little brick bungalow type house with a huge front yard and garden.

"Well, here we are. Make yourself at home," Louis muttered softly as he unlocked the door.

Was he mad at me? He couldn't be. I didn't do anything wrong, right?

"Your house is so nice," I attempted a little small talk. But of course all I got was a mumbled "thanks" in return.

I decided to be straightforward with him. "Look, Louis, I don't know why you're mad, did I do something?"

"No, it's fine," he avoided my stare.

"No, it's really not. What did I do?" I put my hand on my hip.

"Well, I kinda thought that you were a little into me. I thought tonight wouldn't be as much studying, but more getting to know each other better, and you know," he sighed.

"Oh," I was right. "I'm sorry, Louis. It's just that..." I searched for the right words, "I'm not really ready right now, you know? There's just a lot going on in my life. I just moved, broke up with my boyfriend, and started this whole new life. I don't mean to be dramatic, but I'm just not ready. Sorry." I don't know if I meant it or not.
