'What prophecy?' I asked.
'The Dragon Queen prophecy. Which means... Oh gods.' Replied Luna surprised.
'What? What does it mean?'
'It means several things. You are the daughter of the King of Fire and Earth and the Queen of the Air and water. Also you have a dragon? On top of this your purpose is to unite the two kingdoms before your 18th birthday which is the day the two kingdoms will go to war. Lastly you probably have control of all 4 elements considering your parents each had 2.' I stared at her baffled.
'What...'
'Yea I know it's hard to believe but its true.'
'Umm ok I really don't know who any of those people are or what you were talking about?'
'That's nice. You better get some sleep cuz we're breaking out of here tomorrow.'
'Wait what?! You can't just say something like that and leave me confused! You're actually insane...' I complained. Luna had already started snoring in the few seconds she had stopped talking.
'Ugh good night then I guess.' I curled up in the thin pile of mouldy straw in the corner of my cell, ignoring all the bad things going on and tried to get some sleep.
-------------------------------------
The cold dampness of the floor woke me up. Small droplets of water dripped from the ceiling and hit the floor next to me. I sat up and yawned, it was ice cold. Luna was awake and staring at me from the corner of her cell.
'Mornin.' She said smiling.
'Oh hi.' I looked around, the torch at the end of the hallway was just a pile of orange and black dying embers but there was still some light shining through a small crack in the ceiling outside our cells.
'Luna?' I asked.
'Yes?'
'How do you plan breaking us out of here exactly?'
'Oh. I thought it was pretty straight forward and you already knew!'
'What? How would I know?'
'Well you know those powers you have? You're gonna explode that door with fire and then do all sorts of crazy element stuff!'
'Luna you're completely deluded. I don't have flippin powers. I don't have a so called dragon thing you speak of and I don't have any parents.'
'No you're wrong.'
'No you're wrong Luna... I can't do anything!'
'Have you ever tried?'
'No...'
'Try.'
'How?'
'Um. I'm not sure.'
'Exactly.'
'Hmm try focus all your energy on the door.'
I turned to face the door and squinted my eyes at it. Nothing happened.
'Luna its not wor-'
'Try harder!' She snapped, cutting me off. I tried closing my eyes and searching deep in my body for anything. Nothing.
'It's not working.' I said with my eyes still closed.
'Keep trying.'
I tensed all my muscles and focused really hard on the cell door. I felt something click inside me and the door started glowing red. It grew redder and redder until it was white hot. It melted onto the floor. I stared in amazement at what I had just done.
'Well who's right now.' Said Luna proudly.
'Ugh just let me melt your door and then we can get out of here. I stepped out my cell, making sure not to stand on the smoking liquid metal. Once again focused on the cell door this time Luna's one. It grew red hot then white then melted away just like mine had. I felt a bit light headed after that but I didn't show it. She stood up and walked out her cell with such happiness and disbelief in her eyes. Only now could I see how skinny and dirty she really was. She was almost a head shorter than me. Her rags hung loosely around her bony figure and she had pale skin that hadn't seen sunlight in years.
'Let's go.' She said with a huge grin on her face.
We started walking up the stairs. They were quite slippery and wet but we clung onto the railing along the wall for support. We reached the top and heard the laughs of the guards through the door. I couldn't hear what they were saying too clearly but I put my ear to the large wooden door and tried to listen in on their conversation. 'I h-ve to go feed th-se idiots in the c-ls' was all I heard before footsteps got louder and louder. The door swung open and I pulled Luna behind it with me as the guard walked past us and down the stairs and into sheer darkness.
'Close one...' I whispered. She nodded in agreement. I peered around the door and the coast was clear apart from a half asleep guard at the end on a bench. His armour the same as the man who brought me here. We tip-toed down the hallway and as we reached what appeared to be an exit there was a shout coming from the place where the cells were.
'THEY ESCAPED!!!' The guard on the bench who was sleeping before woke up with a jump and his gaze fell on us.
'You! Stop or I'll kill you!' I tried to open the exit door but it was locked, of course it was locked. I shook it to try open it but nothing happened.
The guard approached us and I could hear muffled frantic footsteps of more guards in the room above us coming down along with the one from the cell area. I remembered how I had melted the metal doors of our cells and I closed my eyes. The door caught on fire and in seconds was reduced to ashes. The guard stared in horror and surprise at what I had just done to the door, I winked at him and grabbed Luna's arm before bolting out the newly made exit. I felt the sharp stones and dark soil on my feet and breathed in the surprisingly fresh air.
Luna looked extremely excited about all the fresh air and half dead sunshine but now was not the time to be playing around and relaxing. We bolted for a small hole at the bottom of the huge walls that surrounded the whole area. They loomed above us more and more as we got closer, reminding me of the mountains from where I'd come from. I could hear the yells of dozens of guards catching up to us.
Luna slid through the gap in the wall with ease. I however almost got stuck. The guards reached us as I fell out onto the other side. There were green plants and colourful fluttering creatures around us along with trees and lovely hills that went on for miles. The yells of the guards were muffled but I swear they said the word door. Before I could take in the view fully the guards flooded out of a hidden door around the corner. I gulped and started running. Luna ran after me and I could hear her puffing and getting out of breath. I looked behind me and the guards were catching up again with Luna struggling to keep running. Suddenly I heard a yelp of pain and saw Luna trip up on the root of a tree.
'Luna!' I yelled. The guards were meters away from her and getting closer.
