'What the hell is that supposed to mean? Some rock knows my name? It told me not to give up hope. Too late.' I threw the rock down the side of the cliff with frustration, which I kind of regretted a moment later, that thing could've been a clue to my ticket out of here. Apart from the rock that was now somewhere, there was nothing up here, I looked around and there was nothing in the desert either.
I yelled at the top of my voice and put my face down to the cold stone. I looked up to where the rock had come from. There was something engraved in the smooth flat stone I hadn't noticed before. It was a map. Surprised, I got my small piece of charcoal from my satchel and quickly scribbled the map onto my waterskin, the only thing I had which could be used as a drawing place for it.
The map was complete now and it showed an egg, the same egg that I've seen for the past few weeks. The egg seemed to be a starting point on the map. There was a trail showing a route to get to two big buildings. The buildings had four circle bits, one on each corner and a big gate each. I had no idea what it was. I looked for anything of any use that I had missed but there was nothing there and it was getting dark. I began my long descent down the mountain.
------------------------------
As I reached the oasis I splashed my dusty face with water and washed out my many cuts. I looked over to my right and jumped when I saw the rock I threw down. It was split down the middle but apart from that it was 100% intact. Weird. It looked hollow so I turned both pieces to face me and to my astonishment in one half was a necklace with a black pendant of a peculiar winged creature and in the other side a gold bracelet with intricate patterns and swirls on it. I studied them carefully. On the inside of the bracelet there were a few words I couldn't understand. It read: 'Draco Auryon Reyna'. It said my name but that's all I understood.
I took the two pieces of beautiful jewellery and wore them proudly, although I was still confused by how they got in a rock. I looked at my reflection in the water and I could see the onyx pendant hanging around my thin neck. I walked to the hole and on the way looked at the egg that was strangely on its side tonight. I ignored it and continued back to my little home.
I climbed into the hole and laid down in the corner and pulled some of my palm fronds around me to keep my comfy and warm. I fell immediately into a peaceful slumber and I slept like a rock.
-----------------------------
I awoke to the same silence I did every day. This day was a special day though, it was the day I was going to do something with my life and follow that map to my destiny. I checked my arm for the bracelet to see if I had just imagined what had happened. I didn't imagine it, it was still there on my arm.
I peered out the door of my house to see bright rays of hope shining through my palm frond door thing. They hit my face and filled me with happiness. I climbed out and looked around, the egg had moved to another side during the night, I went over to investigate.
I was a few meters away when I saw the egg had a small hole in the side of it with a few little claws sticking out.
'WHAT. The hell is that...' I yelped jumping back. The little claws started moving and before I knew it there were two little arms with sharp talons on the ends of each of the fingers. It started to break the shell, god knows how it broke through something that was as hard as stone but it did. Within minutes there was a large hole in the egg and suddenly a tiny, black, winged creature flopped out of the remains of the destroyed egg shell. Its little eyes darted around wildly, examining itself and its surroundings while I examined IT. It looked up at me with its beady green eyes. Its dark scales shimmered in the morning light. Never before had I seen such a strange creature in my life. I looked into its glassy eyes and saw my reflection.
It took a step forward and I took a step back. It took another step forward and I took another step back. I started walking back to my home to my bow in case this strange reptile like creature tried to attack me. It didn't follow me thankfully.
I slid down into my house grabbed my bow and arrow and peered out the hole like some kind of ninja. The tiny black creature nowhere to be seen. 'Phew.' I sighed in relief. I went back over to my possessions and grabbed them all, this was the last time I would be seeing my little house, the place I've stayed for years. I had so many memories here, well a few. Ok none. I had a few memories of this entire area.
I tried not to get emotional and stayed strong, 'Who knows what adventures I'm going to get into!' I said to myself reassuringly.
It didn't really work but I liked to pretend it did. I clambered out my hole and stood up. I was about to grab my waterskin map when I saw the little black egg creature looking back at me. Its green eyes were piercing my soul. I shivered slightly at the creepy little thing.
'BE GONE!' I yelled at it with my hands flailing in the air, trying to scare it away. It tilted its head but didn't flinch even slightly. I started walking and it bounced along beside me.
'I guess you're coming with me then little reptile...'
