"If you can't kill your enemy, make them regret the fact that they're alive."
The months rolled by, though our emotions didn't change. We, the Monster Hunters, were still filled with emotions of rage, anger and revenge. Though while I mostly stayed in the shadows during the few months the session started, my recon proved beneficial to us. We were to proceed with our first offensive attack after the war ended 10 months ago. My objective was to somehow reduce the strength of the teacher, Ka, and only then the plan could proceed.
Over the months, I figured out something about Ka's personality- he would never refuse to teach someone about something, and I could use it to my advantage.
Our class started off as usual, however the topic was mana control. With my research and observation, I did managed to seek out a few side effects of loosing control over your mana, although I didn't know how effective they were. Naturally, I asked Ka to demonstrate what would happen if you lose control over your mana, and since he saw this as an opportunity to improve the relationship between humans and monsters, he immediately focused his mana on his left arm. I could hear him murmuring something, and within a few seconds the scene was filled with darkness.
It was almost pitch black, and the core of the aura was Ka's hand. It was a scene that I remembered from the war, followed by chaos and carnage. However, Ka cut off his hand in a swift flick before the situation worsened.
That was my cue to signal the Monster Hunters. With just one hand and weakened power, Ka couldn't have fought efficiently, or so I thought. I made a fatal mistake, I was too eager and didn't count the other monsters in the equation.
The resultant was complete annihilation of the Monster Hunters even though we almost managed to defeat Ka. The scene I witnessed was familiar to the war. Hundreds of us clashed and died, and I could feel the despair of others. It made me feel to sacrifice myself as well, although the director corrected me and made me realise my importance.
Our chance of winning could have been greatly be increased if the S class Monster Hunters were ready by then, but the only ones that were deployed were the A class and B class.
There is a structural and fundamental difference between the classes. B class are the widely recruited soldiers, equipped with military grade weapons and technology. Though maintained and enrolled by Alpha Tech, they were given limited technology due to their low compatibility with the Omega Reactor, the energy core that powers the exosuit developed by Alpha Tech.
The distribution of specific anti monster weapons starts from those who are promoted to A class. Their armour has certain mana absorption capabilities, although it's inefficient against S class monsters such as Ka. The Burst cannons, however, stop the mana flow of the enemy, hence they're highly efficient if the enemy has no outer protection.
The real deal is the S class. Although they're still prototypes, but they have enough destructive power to battle, and most likely destroy S class monsters. Equipped with the omega reactor, only a select few can drive the highly armoured exosuit. It has a plethora of anti monster weapons, and a static mana absorption shield which converts the inflicted damage into energy, hence the reactor gets stronger the more damage it sustains.
I, however, was not given any rank. Even though I was compatible with the Omega Reactor, I wasn't ready for it physically. After all, you can't expect much from a high school student. But they recognised my recon abilities, hence I'm here, conspiring against the ones who lead us to our deplorable present.Next chapter- The Transfer Student
