With each step I take towards the pool, I feel my heart race faster, banging roughly against my chest. I squeeze my eyes shut, trying to imagine the pool as a jello bowl. Which I fail at seeing in my mind, so I just open my eyes and continue to stare at the doom. I turn to my right, and see my best friend, my only friend, Allyson, who I call Ally.
"Come on Nate, you've got this!" Ally encourages me, taking my hand, staring into my brown eyes. I weakly smile, and nod my head. "I'll be here with you, don't worry." She smiles back, and it helps cheer me up. I fully smile, and grip onto her hand tightly, turning my head back to the pool of still water.
She drags me ahead, my feet having to move, or else they'll get horribly scratched. I shake my head, screaming, scared out of my mind. I don't know how to swim. "Ally, waaii-" I get cut off by my voice losing itself, us jumping up into the air. I tried to scream, but my voice couldn't be found. We crash into the water, and my grip on Ally's hand gets much tighter.
She swims up, having to pull me up as well. She looks me in the eyes and glances at my legs, that are stiff and still under the water. "Come on, kick your legs. I can't hold onto your hand the whole time." She chuckles. I nod my head, shivering, and I do as she tells me to do. I kick my legs, full force. "Woah, okay, you don't have to be so aggressive. Feel the water gently pass by your legs." I slow down the pace.
"I-I'm doing it, right?" I asked, staring at her, my eyes wide. She nods her head, giggling.
"Now, sway your arms to the side, in towards your chest, and out." She instructs, letting go of my hand, more so forcing it away. I shriek and flare my arms in the water. She grabs my hand again, and helps me somewhat stay above water. "Come on Nate." She glares at me. I sigh, nodding my head.
I squeeze my eyes shut, letting go of her hand, moving my arms and legs like she told me to do. I'm doing it! "Ally!" I cheered, she smiles and nods at me.
"Good job Nate, I knew you could do it!" Ally says to me, continuing to smile, and I'll admit, it was beautiful, as well as her.
