~LIKE...THREE YEARS LATER~
~STEVE ROGERS POV~
I walk down the streets of New York, looking around at everything curiously. It has changed so much since before the ice, I don't think I'll ever get used to it. I am currently on a walk around the city, just trying to clear my head, even if I've been here for more than four years. I miss the old days, not the war, of course, but it was my home, where I was raised. The people, I miss the people, but Bucky's alive, so that's good, I hope I can find him though. I miss Peggy, I miss her so much, I wanted a life with her. I wanted that dance.
I sit down on one of the park benches and look at my watch.
7:46pm, Wednesday April 22nd, 2015.
My watch is digital, curtesey of Stark. I'd rather have an old fashioned watch, but I don't have much money, and this one works just fine. Plus, I wouldn't want to hurt Stark's pride, even if his ego desperately needs some flattening. This thing is hard to work anyways, the screen moves, and if I touch it it changes. It also counts my steps, and keeps track of my heart rate and blood pressure. Apparently I can also call or 'text' people and get directions to places. Look at photos and take photos. Record my heartbeat. Ask this girl who's trapped in the watch for help with, apparently, whatever I need. I can also order food or drinks from nearby places with this weird app, and then pick it up later. It'll keep track of my workout and can also call SOS.
Rubbish if you ask me.
I would rather have a nice simple watch with the hands and the little dash marks on the face. No screen, no phone, no directions. I'll admit that it's useful at times, but I don't like the way it looks. It's just too....modern. Like I have a piece of a robot slapped around my wrist.
I look around at all the stores and restaurants. And at all the people around me.
I see a woman pushing a double stroller with two sleeping babies inside. She looks utterly exhausted, but happy. I smile at her, glad to see a little sunshine in this dark, cruel world. I look to my right and see a small boy holding his father's hand, licking a chocolate icecream, a small skip in his step. His father is grinning like an idiot as he looks off into the distance. I look too, and see a young blonde woman walking towards them, grinning too. I watch as she meets up with them, hugging the father and ruffling the boys hair. They then walk on, a young couple and their little boy. I smile as well and sigh, young love. So innocent and sweet, so unlike the world we live in, especially recently. I turn my head and see a small man in a wheelchair, being pushed by a very angry looking woman. I turn my head again and see two girls walking, arms around eachother, talking and laughing. I go to turn my head again, but something catches my eye. I do a double take and look back at what I saw.
I girl with strawberry blonde hair was standing there, staring at me with her bright green eyes. There was something unusual about this girl, and something familiar. She was glowing slightly, in a weird way. Like what you see when your computer glitches, all those weird colours were emitting from her slightly in pixels. And then realizations hits me, I know this girl, she's the girl from the alleyway three years ago. The one who got in trouble with that gang.
I looked around, no one else seemed to notice her. I looked back and watched her, I watched her until a body blocked my view, I waited about two seconds until the people cleared and looked back to where she was.
Only to find her gone.
Gone.
Just like last time.
There's no way she could've ran away that fast, out of my sight. I look around for any sign of the bright hair, but find nothing. Then I catch a flash of orange in the corner of my eye. I turn my head to see the girl.
