Jessica POV
A party. I haven't been to one in awhile, not since Jared and I broke up. I never liked them much, but he wanted me to go to them, so I did. After we broke up, I stopped going to parties. I stopped being social. But now, I was at a new school, and I wanted to make new friends.
So here I was, at a party. My heels dug into my feet, and my hair scratched my neck, but I found myself laughing as I danced, the music swelling in my veins, my heart beating with its rhythm, sweat traveling down my spine. I laughed and danced with Allison, a girl in one of my classes who offered me a ride to this party. Maybe we could be friends. Maybe I could be happy here.
And I did feel happy. It was a strange feeling. I hadn't been happy for a long time. My face was sore from smiling, and I knew from a heat in my cheeks that I was flushed. I felt so....light. Like all my worries and the weight that came with them was gone. That is, until a warm hand closed around my waist, and everything in me went cold.
