Kalene woke to a strange sensation against her back. Carefully sitting up she found Elijah laying next to her, his shirt gone. Kalene felt heat creep up her face at the sight of him. Reaching up she scrubbed her face with her hands and pulled back abruptly at the sharp pain that shot through her head.

“Ow!” Kalene whispered as she gently placed her hand on her bandaged forehead. Looking around the room she could tell by it’s condition and her lack of cleanliness that it’s been at least three days since she’s been in bed. After a moment past events came rushing back to her in a frenzy.

“Oh just you wait ‘till I get my strength back you mutt.” Kalene growled. Shaking it off she returned her attention back to Elijah and a strange warming sensation coursed through her body. Smiling lightly, she circled her clawed finger around his shoulder and as the warming sensation grew so did the intricate heart shaped symbol with vines wrapping around it appear on Elijah’s shoulder.

Kalene jerked her hand away in panic. Her eyes widened as she realized what that mark meant, “No, no, no!” Kalene whispered in a panic.

Just as she placed her hand on the mark to try and remove it, Elijah’s hand covered hers. Her traitorous heart skipped a beat at his gentle touch.

“You’re awake.” Elijah said on a breathless whisper.

“Hey.” Kalene said just as breathless and not sure how to respond to him when he looked at her like she was something to him. Elijah sat up. Kalene kept her hand on his shoulder not wanting him to see it.

Elijah quirked a curious brow at her, “Is everything alright?” Elijah asked cautiously as he moved to remove her hand. Panicking Kalene threw herself into his arms.

“Can you just….hold me? Please?” Kalene whispered with a small pout as she looked up at him.

Slightly confused Elijah wrapped his arms around her as he placed his back against the headboard. Kalene laid her head on the marked shoulder. After a few moments Elijah carefully put her aside.

Kalene grabbed his arm, “Wait, where are you going?” Kalene asked honestly not wanting him to leave. Taking her hand he placed a chaste kiss on her knuckles.

“I promised Marcellus I would let him know immediately when you woke. I must dress before I go see him.” Elijah said quietly as he brushed the hair out her face. When Elijah turned towards the mirror, Kalene flung her hand out and shattered it. Elijah turned towards her quickly.

Kalene smiled innocently as she smiled shyly, “Sorry...my emotions are kinda everywhere right now.” Elijah nodded even though he had a knowing smile.

When Elijah went to the closet where he placed his shirts Kalene remembered the closet mirror and she moved with catlike agility and blocked the door. Her arms spread out across the door.

“Kalene, what is going on?” Elijah asked trying to move her but she wouldn’t budge.

“Ummm, well you see, you’ve been taking care of me for what seems like days….” Kalene’s voice trailed off as she looked to her feet.

Elijah placed his hand under her chin and tried to make her look at him but she kept her eyes down cast, “Kalene, you do not owe me anything. I promise.” Elijah whispered.

Kalene finally looked up at him from under eyelashes, her eyes a vibrant blue, “I may not owe you anything Elijah...but let me take care of you, if only for a moment.” Kalene whispered seductively.

Kalene gently pushed him back towards the bed where he sat and watched in wonder. Opening the closet, completely blocking the mirror, Kalene grabbed his shirt, jacket and tie. Closing the closet, she laid the clothes on the bed before she rushed to the bathroom and returned with a rag and a bowl of warm water.
