What if humans were born with a clock on their wrists that counted down to the exact second they would meet their soulmate?
Not every soulmate is romantic...
Rhett stared down at the numbers as they ticked by, only a matter of days now. Three days, and it was three days until he stared first grade at his new school. Every night, his heart would start to race as he lay in bed, thinking about his soul mate that he was due to meet in just a few more days. What would she look like? He knew she was going to be the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Would she be tall? He thought about all of this very often.
The days passed quickly, and he was there, standing in the school yard, only ten minutes left on his clock. The sun ahone brightly today, the sky was perfectly blue, full of fluffy white clouds and birds singing as they flew.
Rhett searched all the faces of the girls running by and laughing as they played together, he wondered which one would be his soulmate. The bell rang loudly, drawing Rhett out of his thoughts. He ran, his lanky legs pushing him forward and into his classroom where he sat down next to a boy with dark brown hair and bright blue eyes.Five minutes now, five minutes and he would meet her. All the other kids had clocks here to, everyone did, but Rhett knew, one of the girls had to have the same numbers counting down that he did.
His heart raced as he noticed he only had fifty-nine seconds before he would meet her. Filled with angst and remembering the words he had heard in movies that were "bad words", Rhett began to write them on his desk, trying to distract his eager self.
Zero.. Rhett glanced up and to the boy next to him, he was writing bad words too. The boy looked at him, green eyes meeting blue for the first time. Rhett realized at that moment, this was his soulmate, but not every soulmate is romantic.
Rhett glanced at the top of the boy's desk, a sticker was stuck there with his name printed on it. He then looked at the boy, a smile slowly growing. He whispered softly.
"Hello Link, my name is Rhett, and I'm your best friend."
