//ANDY POV//

After a fall that was pretty quick, I landed into a huge net. Thank god there was a net. I was afraid it would be a suicide test to get rid of a few.

I looked up and sighed in relief before bursting out laughing. You were terrified over nothing. Of course they would put a net there, Andy. They wouldn't harm anyone on the first day. I thought.

"It won't be funny when you get squashed in a rough landing from another." Ashley chuckled while he and Jinxx helped me out of the net. "Right, Jinxx?"

"I didn't even break a bone." Jinxx replied as he rolled his eyes.

It wasn't much longer after I got out of the net that CC landed. he immediately burst out laughing and constantly yelling "Holy shit!" even after we helped him out of the net.

The next was Jake who still seemed shocked that he even had the bravery to jump. As we helped him out of the net. he finally spoke by asking "Did we die?"

Which made us burst out in laughter as I shook my head. "No. They were trying to intimidate us."

We started chatting when after about half an hour, we noticed a stairwell as the rest of the group walked down the stairs.

"These brave souls followed orders without questioning." Tom smiled. "Congratulations. You just got in the five highest ranks."

Hallelujah! I should do just fine as a Dauntless. I have nothing to worry. This is where I belong.

A tan, muscular man walked down who seemed to be in his twenties. Of course they sent the girls into hysterics as they were chattering and obsessing over him.

"If this is what the guys in Dauntless get every day, I'm all in." Ashley whispered. Which I tried to restrain myself from cracking up.

"I normally work in Control, but I will be your instructor for the next few weeks. My name is Four."

There was a murmur in the crowd about the unusual name.

"Is that because One, Two, and Three are taken?" A girl chuckled, which sent some giggles and laughter throughout the crowd.

"Is there a problem?" Four asks.

The crowd immediately becomes silent as Four walks up to the girl.

"What's your name?" He asks.

"Charlie." She smirked.

"Well, Charlie. It's best if you learn to respect your authorities and not make comments. Understood?" It almost sounded like a threat.

She nodded. "Understood." She replied with a smirk.

Honestly I was surprised to see a girl so defiant.

"Now this is the pit." Four spoke. "You will learn to enjoy it."

As we walked down the hall, we entered a chasm (as Four mentioned it was) and we saw the floor drops off vertically several stories.

"Let this be the reminder that the line between bravery and idiocy is very fine." Four shouts. "One jump will end it all. It's happened before, and it will happen again."

The initiates began murmuring as we are led into a dining hall across from the pit. It's full of people who welcome us, the initiates by applause, noise, stomps, and shouts.

We found a table with empty seats and decided to sit there.

I noticed circular-shaped pieces of meat, which I didn't know what they were.

"It's beef." CC said to me as he handed me a bottle of red sauce. "Put this on it."

"What is it?" I asked.

"Ketchup." CC answered.

"You've never had ketchup or hamburgers before?" Ashley asks in shock.

"No..." I replied. "So that's what it's called?"

"Abnegation doesn't use those silver thingies." CC explains. "They eat plain food."

"Well that's going to change." Ashley says as he shoves the hamburger into my mouth. "Take a bite, Andy."

This kid was nuts, but I knew he was trying to make me feel more at home by joking around. I took a big bite and started chewing.

"Swallow. Don't choke." Ashley said while making a comical-perverted grin. Which made me burst out laughing so hard, I almost choked.

As I swallowed the burger. Ashley smiled.

"Let's have a toast." He shouted as he held out his glass of water.

"A toast." We all responded and held out our glasses.

"To a wonderful, kickass, happy life... including hamburgers.... in the Dauntless faction. To Dauntless!"

"To Dauntless!" We cheered as our glasses slammed into each other and we took a swig of our water.

I felt sure enough now that Dauntless is where I belonged.
