                 Chapter 2

Jeff's eyes opened. He was still lying on the ground in front of his brothers grave. The rain had stopped and a bright blue sky greated Jeff like an old friend. "Damn." Jeff hated being out during the day. People usually stared at him because of the long cuts flowing from each side of his mouth. Not only that but he was infact considered a murderer. If he was spotted there would most certainly be a comotion.

Jeff stood up his body trembeling in pain. Sleeping on the cold, hard ground had did a number on him. He pulled the hood of his sweater far over his face, trying to shade what he could of the cuts from the outside world. He turned and looked at Lui's grave one last time. "Thank you, Brother." He smiled and decided to leave the umbrella were it was.

He walked down the stone path to the cemetery exit. He stopped in his tracks and admired the cherry blossom tree. It's flowers were in full bloom and it was truly a sight to behold. It was the only cherry blossom for miles. It was all alone. Just like Jeff. It was different, and out of place.

Jeff grinned it was just like him. It made him feel not so alone.

He turned away from the tree and started on his way again. He turned onto the side walk towards his home. He was genuinely nervous. Even though he had his hood up he felt eyes on him. Jeff kept his head low. He didnt need to watch where he was going, he had done the trek so often that he had completely memorized it.

He turned into the alley way leading up to his door. He lived in an old run down apartment. It was supposed to be condemned. The whole building was full of cracks and most of the windows were shattered. The shadow it cast over everything was almost ominous. The Building was coming off its foundation and looked like it would fall over at just a slight touch. Jeff liked it. To Jeff it was home. It comforted him too know that nobody else in their right mind would enter the old structure.

Jeff unlocked the padlock that kept the door adorned with chains. There was a loud clank as the chains hit the cracked pavement. He opened the door and hurried inside, locking the door from the inside. He sighed, turning to look at the many stairs that stood in his way. He started to climb the old wooden stairs when one of the boards broke and sent him tumbling forwards. He let out an exasperated growl and kept on his way.

When he arrived at his floor, he began the trek down the hallway. 33. 34.35. Room 36. He opened the door and was greeted by the familiar smell of His belongings.  Jeff stepped in and closed the door. He walked over to has bed and sat down. Beside his bed was a huge glass window. Most likely the only window in the whole building that was unscathed.

From that window he watched all the people dwelling below. From the rich to mere petty theives, and even to the homeless. He envied them all. Every single last one of them. They all had something that Jeff could never have again. The will to socialize and be happy.

Jeff clenched his fist in his blankets."Stupid. Just stupid." he said to himself. He looked over to the small table beside his bed where he found a framed picture. Jeff picked it up feeling the coldness of the steel surrounding the photograph. He wiped the dust off. It was a picture of him and his family. Before all of this madness started. The picture showed his mother and father with there arms around each other, and Jeff and Liu laughing together. He missed that. He missed all of it. But it all changed so quickly because of that one night.

Jeff set the picture facing downwards on the table and draped his arms over his legs. He would give anything to have that back, but he knew that he could never get back what he had. He fell backwards onto his bed and stared at the ceiling listening to the noises radiating in from outside. Noises like cars and the friendly chatter of people.

He covered his face with his pillow to block out all the racket. Though he really wasn't doing it for the silence. He was doing it because if he heard much more he was going to cry again. Jeff slowly drifted asleep.

In his dream state he dreamed of the day he was set on fire like a human torch. The day when his final bridge to sanity collapsed. The day that started this all off. After that day he had spent a couple weeks in the hospital recovering from his burns. When the body cast was taken off his skin was bleached white and felt leathery. His hair was burned black. And his eyes were encircled with what looked like permanent bruises. When his parents took him home Jeff found himself in the bathroom carving huge slits into each side of his mouth.

His mom walked in on him doing so. He turned to his mother, knife in hand and he said "Aren't I beautiful mommy?" She replied with "Yes sweety. let me go get daddy so he can see how beautiful you are." She hurried to her bedroom where Jeffs father was in bed. "Dear get the gun. I think we..." Just then she turned around and Jeff was in the door way. "You lied mommy." Jeff chimed. And then he ran at her.

Jeff killed his own parents. He had watched as crimson blood flowed onto the floor. Turning the gray, red. But it didnt stop there. He went into his brothers room. Liu awoke with Jeff peering down on him. Jeff whispered "Go to sleep" and then he plunged the knife down. He remembers his brothers eyes slowly shutting.

Now that is a day to remember.
