Long ago mermaids would reproduce with other mermaids, but their offspring became increasingly more powerful. To keep the balance in the world the mermaid elders decided that no longer would two mermaids be allowed to mate. Instead, once, maybe twice in a life time the mermaids were sent to land to mate with a human. The females would return impregnated and raise the child a mermaid. Males, would impregnate a woman and watch over her until birth, then if it was a mermaid they would take the child back to the sea.
Now normal humans surly wouldn’t agree to this. So a special serum was developed, to help persuade a human into cooperating. The mermaid, or merman would use their power of song to lull the human into a sleep, and then the serum was administered. The humans memories either forgotten of the event, or changed.
But after a few hundred years there began to be slip ups. A mermaid would forget who their mate was, or they would think the mating didn’t work. Soon, there were half mermaids growing up among humans. Due to the small number of mermaids to begin with, these numbers were very small. But after a few generations there were still humans being born with mermaid genes, passed down.
Meet River, a merman who just reached his 18st year, now at the age of reproduction. He is assigned a city to look for a mate. He takes his serum and transitions to land. After scouting out the area he sees a young woman, and instantly knows he wants her to be the one to bear his child. She was beautiful. He found her by the sea, sitting in the sand watching the ocean with a content smile. A lover of the sea was perfect for a being from the sea. When the beach clears out, but the girl stays behind River decides it’s time to act. But what happens, when his song doesn’t work on her, but he knows he has to have her?

Adeline barely remembers the events that took place that night. It feels like a horrible nightmare, she wishes to forget. But she realizes, with increasing clarity of memory what happened.
In fear, she keeps it a secret and continues to live her "perfect" life.
But then her body starts to undergo changes, and strange symptoms appear. When she misses her period, she becomes terrified and confused. Was it even possible?
