"Oi! You silly pup, get back here!" Jane laughed, chasing after her mutt, Mickey. He barked in reply, pausing for a moment to make sure she was still behind him before racing off again. She rolled her eyes, panting a bit as she followed the ridiculous dog through the matted grass of the field.

"Just where are we going, Mic?" She questioned, when he showed no signs of stopping his loping journey across the field. "I'd like to know that too, lassy." A heavily accented voice from her left called. Jane's feet, encased in clompy red rain boots, dragged to a quick halt. "Oh mon! Qui es-tu?" She yelped, slipping back into her native French in her surprise. The raven-haired girl raised a brow, fingering something in her pocket as she stared at Jane. "I know you speak English, there's no use pretending." Jane shook her head, gathering her thoughts. "Oui, I speak English." The girl stepped closer, accessing Jane is a seemingly critical manner.

"Why are you on my land?" It was Jane's turn to raise a brow, absently reaching down to pet Mickey, who had returned to her side when the girl had interrupted. "I don't believe this is your land, fillette. I know the owners of these fields, and they haven't got any daughters." The raven girl crossed her arms, replying tartly, "But they have got nieces, and I happen to be one." "That doesn't make this land yours, lassy." Jane mocked, getting irritated. "I'm just as free as you to roam this area, and if you've got a problem, you can certainly take it up with your aunt and uncle."

Looking up and down Jane, from the red boots to the snapping green eyes and curly hair, she nodded, a new respect glinting in her eyes. "Right you are, lass. I suppose if aintín and uncail let you be, I should too." Extending a hand, she grinned wryly. "The name's Ava." Jane took it, a bit cautiously, and shook once. "Jane." Ava nodded. "So what language were you speaking earlier?"

As the day passed, laughter and singing rang over the field as the girls played, as well as a distant yipping that could be heard from Mickey. The time, it seemed, flew by, for it was soon twilight.

"We should best be getting back soon, Jane. You can't see danger as well in the dark." Ava cautioned, gazing at the brilliance of the setting sun. "Let's stay out just a bit longer." Jane pleaded as she clutched her hand, moving it to sweep across the sky. "The sunsets here are so beautiful.." She murmured. Ava laced her fingers with Jane's, smiling gently at the wonder etched into her features. "They really are, mo chara." Jane grinned at her, sensing that the unfamiliar term was an endearment.

"Let's dance!" She exclaimed, dragging Ava to her feet before twirling excitedly. The raven beauty laughed, twirling as well as Jane's infectious excitement filled the air. Ava grew dizzy after a while, and stopped to right the world before she got sick. But when the world stopped spinning, she noticed something that simply couldn't be.. Jane was twirling a foot off the ground, laughing as she spun higher and higher! She gasped, now sure if she was seeing correctly. "Are you a faerie?" Ava whispered, staring at Jane, for the moonlight on her fair skin lent her an ethereal glow.

Jane gasped; glancing down, she realized that she had given away her most treasured secret. Slowly, so as to not frighten Ava, she floated downwards until her clompy red boots sank into the matted grass. "I-I'm not a faerie." She told her, reaching out to touch her hand. Ava neither took it nor flinched away, simply staring at Jane with eyes that reflected the moon.
