Three knocks got my attention, and I groaned as I shifted onto my back. "Come in." I called, readjusting the hot sock on my stomach. Kylo entered, shutting the door gently behind him.

"I heard from Martin that you were going to be in here all day and I wanted to check on you."

I patted the spot next to me, smiling at his thoughtfulness. "Yeah, the cramps are killing me today." His eyes widened and he asked, "I thought that birth control helped with those things?" I shrugged, wincing when a spike of pain shot through my abdomen. "They can, but I'm not on birth control, Kylo." His brow furrowed and I absently reached up to smooth it, fingers brushing over his skin.

"Why not? I thought all women took it, to be safe."

"Many women are. But the most easily accessible birth control to me use hormones, and that has several risks. It could hurt the baby if I decide to have one." He tilted his head, considering.

"Are you going to have a baby?"

"I might. I think I'd like to, someday, but not yet." Kylo frowned, rubbing circles on my wrist.

"Why do you want a baby?" He finally asked.

I sat up, grimacing in pain, and grabbed his hand, pressing it to my stomach. "Imagine that you have a wife you love, and one day she comes to you, shining like the sun, and tells you that she's pregnant. Imagine the joy of watching her belly grow along with her smile. Imagine putting your hand on her round belly, like your hand is on mine, and feeling a kick. Imagine holding a child, whom you helped create, in your arms for the first time and feeling your heart burst with love for this tiny human. Now tell me you never want to experience that."

His gaze was a million miles away, with his imagined wife and child. For a beat I felt immeasurable sadness at the wonder on his face, though I couldn't explain why. A tear slipped down my cheek, and I hurried to wipe it away.

It was her, Diana. The face of my wife, the mother of my child, was her. The shock of the realization brought me back to the present, where I was surprised to see Diana crying. "Are you okay? Does it hurt really bad?" I asked, alarmed.

"No." She sniffed, laughing wetly as she wiped at her cheeks. "Scooch, I gotta use the restroom."

I stared after the love of my life, dazed.

A/N Diana starts crying because she's sad that Kylo will end up loving and marrying someone else (so she thinks), but can't yet admit that she's in love with him.
