MERIT'S P.O.V

It was now lunch time and I was, as always, sitting at the very back of the library, eating.

Shoot! I didn't tell Justin where to meet me for our 'talk'. I don't eat lunch in the cafeteria like a normal person.

But then when I think about it, I didn't even wanna talk anyway.

For heaven's sake! What was there to talk about anyway?

He kissed me. I didn't respond. End of story!

But why did he kiss me? And even though I didn't respond, why did I like it?

God, my life's messed up.

"Hey."

I jumped at that, almost spilling my fruit juice. For the love of cheese! What now?

I slowly turned around, glaring at Justin. "Uh...sorry." I rolled my eyes for the thousandth time today. "How did you find me?" I asked him, wondering how the hell he found out where I eat my lunch.

"I, uh, I asked one of the few intelligent people here where you eat lunch." he responded. I scoffed. "Lemme guess...Angela?"

"No..."

"Cory?"

"Nope."

"...Unique?"

"Yeah."

Ugh...Unique.

She's definitely 'unique' alright.

I hate that bitch. Let's just say that we haven't had very good encounters. We could have been 'friends', but we just decided to call ourselves acquaintances for now...maybe even forever 'cause I don't think that we're ever gonna get along.

And out of the whole sea of fishes, he just had to ask god damn Unique Johnson.

"Why did you have to ask her?" I asked, narrowing my eyes at him. I don't even know if I was really upset or if I just wanted to stall.

He sighed. "Look, we all know that you and Unique are rivals, but I couldn't find any of the other people in your category, okay? None of you eat in the cafeteria, except Unique." he explained. "Of course." I rolled my eyes, again.

And I don't know if he was being respectful or disrespectful when he referred to the others as 'the other intelligent people in my category'.

Like what's that suppose to mean?

Okay. Something is surely wrong with me. Why do I feel like I want to judo flip the poor guy? Oh yeah, my monthly is suppose to start today...

My eyes widened. Oh shit!

"I'll be right back." And I ran off to the restroom.

Luckily, I wasn't messed up when I went to check.

I went back to the library and sat down in front of Justin. On my way back here, I decided that I should quit stalling and just cut to the chase with this already.

"What do you want to talk about?" I asked him. "The kiss." he said bluntly. "OK." I said, looking at my nails. There is no way in hell I'm making eye contact with him at the moment.

"Look at me." he said. I ignored him. "Look at me, Merit." I ignored him again.

He got up in frustration, grabbed my hands and pulled me out of the seat. "What are you-" I was cut off by him putting me to sit down on his lap. I was practically straddling him.

"Look at me god damn it!"

I jumped and looked him directly in the eyes. He wasn't angry. He was anxious. For what? I don't know.

"Ssshhh." The librarian exclaimed. "Sorry!" I said to her. "Ssshhh!!!"

Well sorry for apologizing.

I sighed and looked him in the eyes again. "Look, Merit, I'm honestly, really sorry for just kissing you like that. If it hurt you in any way, I'm awfully sorry for hurting your feelings. I don't know what came over me and if you want to slap me across the face or kick me in the balls, I completely understand. Do it, 'cause I deserve it. Can we...please, just start over? I don't want this friendship to end. Please?"

I furrowed my eyebrows, studying him and I saw just how genuinely sorry he was. He's telling the truth.

"Well...how about I do both?" I asked him with a playful grin. "Uh...um..."

"I'm just kidding. I accept your apology and I don't want this friendship to end either." I said, smiling at him. "Oh, thank God." he said, laughing.

I laughed at how dramatic he was being with the whole 'put your hand on your heart and gasp for air' act.

"Friends?" he asked, putting his hand up for me to shake. I slapped his hand away and hugged him. You could tell that he was surprised, because he became tense, but after a few seconds, relaxed and returned my hug.

For some weird reason, when we hugged, I felt at home and safe in his warm embrace.

He is probably one of the best huggers in the world.

Okay. Something's seriously wrong with me.

The bell rang, signalling that it was now time for all students to finish their lunches and return to their classes.

I pulled away from the hug and kissed Justin on his cheek. "Thank you." I said.

"What for?" he asked, stunned. "For being my friend." I responded. I got up, took my bag and left the library, walking swiftly to my next session with a smile on my face.
