The first time they met Cersei knew Alaena would either be her truest friend or her greatest rival. Her beauty was often compared to that of the moon. How fitting Cersei thought, the light of the west and the radiant moon.

Over time the two ladies grew closer and formed an unbreakable bond. In Alaena Cersei found the one person who would never leave her side. Alaena was not insipid nor treacherous. She was perfection reborn in Cersei's eyes and could do no wrong.

When Alaena married one of Cersei's relatives, Tytos, the ladies only grew closer. Alaena was now actually Cersei's family. Cersei told Alaena everything and Alaena made sure Cersei knew all of her secrets.

During the worst year of Alaena's life Cersei was always there at her side. When Alaena lost her father in the battle of the Trident Cersei wiped her tears away. Later on when Alaena's younger brother was taken by a deadly fever Cersei let Alaena cry on her shoulder. And when Alaena's first son was born dead Cersei held her hand and soothed her through it all.

Then when Cersei was told she was to marry King Robert Baratheon, Alaena gushed over his tall, strong and handsome appearance with Cersei. They talked of his incredible skill as a soldier and bravery in overthrowing the Targaryen dynasty. She made sure Cersei was happy in her upcoming marriage and reassured her that at long last she could be a beautiful and gracious Queen, and indeed she believed every word she said.

And on Cersei's wedding night, when she came crying tears of frustration and anger, Alaena soothed her and asked what had caused her fury. So when Cersei raged about her husband of one night crying another woman's name when he reached his climax. And not any woman's name, that Northern whore's name. He called for Lyanna. Alaena responded with cool rage for her friend who had been ready to love her husband and whose happiness had been shattered in a second.

Whilst Cersei's heart hardened and she became more bitter and vicious Alaena stayed by her side unwavering and unchanging. But inside Alaena was mourning the death of the sweet, though ambitious, and hopeful girl that her dearest friend used to be. Cersei was still kind and loving to Alaena however she was the only one who saw that side of Cersei.

Throughout the years the two ladies remained inseparable. Through all of Alaena's difficulties with conception, miscarriages and stillbirths Cersei was there to hold her whilst she sobbed. And as all Alaena's tears dried and she grew colder and harder, Cersei supported her. When Alaena lost faith in the Gods' because of the suffering they had caused her Cersei agreed with her sentiments sincerely. When Tytos was disappointed in her inability to bear heirs and couldn't look at her without being overcome with sadness Cersei reassured her that he did love her, his beautiful wife, beyond measure.

At the birth of Cersei's children Alaena was there holding her hand in the pain and wiping her forehead alongside Jaime, who Alaena knew fathered Cersei's children. Alaena wished Cersei would let Jaime be a father to their children. She knew how it felt to be childless and would never wish that on anyone. Cersei's children viewed her as a second mother and soothed Alaena's sore heart.

Cersei was there when Alaena finally bore a child that lived past infancy. She shared Alaena and Tytos' deep joy and relief at having an heir, a precious son. And again when Alaena successfully gave birth to a healthy, beautiful daughter Cersei fell on her knees in the sept, in front of the very God's she had lost faith in so long ago and thanked them sincerely for blessing her beloved friend with precious children.

Through it all the two ladies stood side by side and faced anything the world could throw at them. They compared the charms of their golden haired lovers and agreed that Tytos and Jaime were the height of masculinity. When they needed strength or courage they knew they could find it in the other.

They knew that they could always trust the other.

Through it all...
