Jaime looked up as the door to his room slammed open. Alaena stood in the doorway, tears streaming down her face and her shoulders slumped.
"Alaena what's wrong? Why are you crying? Come here and talk to me."

Slowly Alaena approached him and flung herself upon the bed next to where he was sat. He frowned at her as she stared at him with watery blue eyes rimmed in red. Tentatively he reached out and wrapped his arm around her shoulders pulling her closer to him. Sniffling miserably Alaena buried her face in Jaime's toned chest.

"Please speak to me. Tell me what is upsetting you Alaena." Jaime implored desperately as it hurt him to see her this way.

"I went to give Catelyn Stark my condolences and offer my prayers for Bran. I told her that I know better than anyone how it feels to lose a child." She said tearfully. " I felt so bad for her. Losing a child at all is hard but imagine how terrible it must be to sit there by his bedside just waiting for him to die. Not to mention the fact that even if he does live he will never be the same again. He will never be able to use his legs. And I feel so guilty. Maybe if I had stopped you two or made Cersei spend the day with me then none of this would have happened and Bran would be climbing everywhere full of life."

Throughout Alaena's diatribe Jaime held her close and stroked her pale blonde hair. He could feel his heart breaking for her. In her relatively short life she had endured so much pain and suffering, yet she always understood others pain and never judged. Though she of everyone had the right to say that others pain was small and worthless she never did. She did the opposite in fact and felt so compassionate and empathetic about others bereavement. It just made him feel worst as he and Cersei were the cause of her current grief but she blamed herself.

"My dear, you have experienced so much and yet your heart is still pure, can still love. You are better person than most. You feel guilt for sins that are not your own you take the burden of our crimes. Why do do this to yourself? Why do you punish yourself for a crime you have not committed? Dry your eyes, hold your head high, this is not your cross to bear. It is mine."

She smiled up at him, her tears slowing. "Do you mean that?"

"Why would I lie to you about something like that dearest. You are beautiful inside and out."

Her heart soared, Jaime truly knew how to make her feel better. Over the years they had grown closer to each other given that they were always by Cersei's side. The two people she could trust in this cruel world.

She had never allowed herself to think about how beautiful he truly was, given his relationship with Cersei and the love and respect she holds for Cersei. But here in his room with just the two of them how could she ignore it. Staring into his eyes she wondered how she had never noticed that they looked like the emeralds in her mother's family necklace.

He could feel his heart pounding as he gazed at her. She was one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. He had always been attracted to his cousins wife but he had never acted on it because of her relationship with Cersei and the fact that she had always intimidated him in a strange way. But now he couldn't suppress his feelings anymore.

Jaime reached out and stroked her soft cheek tilting his head down towards her. She reached up and tangled her hands in his golden hair. Their lips met in a moment and nothing had ever felt more right. They could feel their hearts pounding in sync. Beating as one. And they knew that nothing would be the same after this.

Everything had changed...
