'Hoseok!'

Hoseok's head snapped back up immediately.

'I failed.'

Yoongi's face zoomed in terrifyingly and Hoseok backed so fast that he lost his balance and stumbled with his chair.

'Christ.' he hissed. 'It's nine, Yoongs. Too early for all this.'

'But look,' Yoongi growled, crouching down to Hoseok's level. 'I failed math. Fuck. My mom's gonna skin the shit out of me.'

Good, Hoseok thought bitterly, at least she cares.

'Well then, you better study hard.' Hoseok mumbled as he took Yoongi's hand, big against small, matching just a little too perfectly. 'What do you expect?'

'An A+.' Yoongi huffed, letting go. 'As usual.'

'And what did you get? A downgrade F?'

'I'm not that bad. Just... an A.'

'...What?' Hoseok eyed him with an incredulous look.

'I got an A.' Yoongi repeated, his face still disappointed. 'It isn't my best.'

'How is that failing?' Hoseok hissed. He barely kept up with a C+, and he's personally offended.

'It is! My mom doesn't accept anything less than a plus with an A, you know that, Hoseokie.'

Hoseok weakened at the nickname, and his face softened more than he's willing to admit. 'Well your mom needs to know it's enough.' he declared firmly. Yoongi was more than enough.

His friend looked like he wanted to argue, but only a sigh managed to escape his lips and he plopped down into a chair, his face unreadable that Hoseok reached out his hand and pat Yoongi's head in a comforting manner.

'Your house tonight?' he asked softly.

'Mm.' Yoongi hummed, closing his eyes at Hoseok's gesture. 'Sure, why not.'

Hoseok's hand kept moving between silk strands and two heartbeats, one slowing down and the other devastatingly faster. He looked outside the window, where the rest of the school was there in the court, playing tags and run and chase.

'You wanna play?'

'Nah.' his friend shuffled closer to his hand's motion. 'This is nice. Do you?'

Hoseok did want to join the rest of his friends down there, but when he looked back at the sight of another boy, resting his head on the table and half purring under his light touch, somehow the rest of the world didn't matter.

'Nah.' he said. 'This is nice.'

They were running out of the school as soon as the bell rang, shoes dirty against the pavement and their steps echoed in their ears, laughter erupted from their mouth as silly challenges sealed between their shouts.

'Race you to the coffee shop!'

'You think you can beat me?'

Hoseok ran, fast as the wind hitting his face with Yoongi trying to catch up to him. His chest expanded, the fog in his mind cleared for a long, few seconds as his feet accelerated to a speed that he allowed them to. He doubted he was ever this fast, the ground screamed under his steps, his air taken away from him, and Yoongi was there already, always so much better than him.

'Dammit.' he cursed, and Yoongi only grinned.

'It's on you this time.'

'Fine. Asshole.'
