Kevin got out of his car and ran his hand through his hair. He adjusted his tank top, and the put a headphone in his ear. It was another normal day at the gym for him, y'know just working out, grinding and hanging with his cute gym partner.
Her schedule was always erratic, much like she was. She was always so hyper and positive, and Kevin really took a liking to her for that. He saw her bubble gum pink buggie in the parking lot and knew that she was there. He let out a small laugh before entering the the gym.
He decided to get on the treadmill first, subtly searching for his gym partner. When he couldn't find her he put his other headphone in his ear and began running. He was just running at a jogging pace and zoning out. His mind wandered to the upcoming Summer Split and he wondered what the other teams would have in store. Sure, they fought in scrims, but that doesn't mean the other teams won't have tricks up their sleeves. The gym was sort of a safe space for Kevin, a destresser.
He was so zoned out that he didn't even notice his gym partner, y/n standing in front of him waving her hands. He jumped slightly, slipping on the treadmill. Y/n laughed, watching him,
"Well ain't that just a doozy?" She asked, her voice laced with happiness. Kevin laughed, getting off the treadmill. He shut the machine off and turned to face her,
"Yeah, i guess so. How've you been y/n? It's been a while." He commented. Truthfully it had been two weeks since they last met at the gym. They never really exchanged numbers, or tried to plan anything. Both of their lives are too fluid. Y/n was always trying something new, and Kevin was always doing something league related.Y/n laughed, "I've been good! Have you ever tried painting? It's soooo much fun? Or like sculpting?" she asked him, her eyes twinkling. Kevin shook his head,
"Can't say I have. Never been interested in the arts, and I don't really have the time." He told her. She shook her head,
"You really should when you get the time. What's first?" She inquired, crossing her arms arms and looking up at him. Kevin had to think about it for a second. He decided on something simple,
"How about we stretch and then do some bench presses?" He asked her. Y/n nodded,
"I'll spot!" She declared while getting out mats for the both of them to stretch on. She was glad he decided to bench today, just so she could see his muscles. Kevin laughed, setting his mat down and rolling it out. He began to do some lunges while y/n was stretching her arms next to them. The duo continued to stretch, switching what they were stretching every so often.
Y/n followed Kevin to the benches and watched as he loaded then with weights on each side. He ended up with about 90 pounds waning to go easy on himself, and his partner. He laid down on the benched, looking up at Y/n as she gently placed bar over his chest. She held it there until she was sure her grabbed it. She let her hands ghost over the metal bar, watching as he worked methodically. Kevin wasn't focusing on her face, but instead the reps. He was at 20 before he signaled for y/n to put the barbell back. She put it back with ease, smiling at him,
"Spot me?" She asked him delicately, a smile adorned in her features. Kevin couldn't resist, and he simply nodded, getting off of the bench.
"After this we take a break and head to the elliptical, sound good?" He asked from above her, admiring her face. Y/n grunted, nodding as she began to bench. She was no where near as strong as the man spotting her, it she could still do 10 reps. Kevin lifted the bar up, putting to back in its place. Y/n smiled up at Kevin, giving him a thumbs up.
They walked over to the towels, wiping the sweat off of their faces and leaning on the walls.
"How's work?" Y/n asked, glancing over at the man next to her. Kevin turned to face her, a small smile playing on his lips.
"Work? It's the usual. Just more practice and some games coming up soon." He told her. Y/n's eyes lit up, a large grin playing on her face. She had a few tricks up her sleeves.
"Hmmm? Really? Maybe I'll go! I need something new to invest my time into!" She told him. Kevin laughed, shaking his head.
"If you want to, you have the guy right here!" He point at himself, using his thumb. Y/n laughed, finishing off her water. She and Kevin split ways, y/n going to do squats while Kevin lifted more weights. Y/n ran on the treadmill, choosing to sprint. She loved running, it was her favorite thing to do. She always ran from place to place. She had the treadmill on 7, and wasn't focused on anything but running. She silently hummed to herself, her legs running at the pace of the treadmill.
Kevin made his way back over to Y/n, standing to the right of her. Y/n saw him walk over and slowly turned the treadmill speed down. She smiled at him, trying to catch her breath. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand, waiting for him to speak. He couldn't hold it back anymore. Kevin was sick of just being gym partners, he wanted to be able to call her up and have adventures. He wanted to be with her spontaneity. He wanted to be with her.
"So, I was thinking," he started, scratching the back of his neck, "we should go grab something to eat sometime?" Y/n tilted her head, before cheerily agreeing.
"Sure! Totally! I'm always down to try new things, especially with my not so positive gym partner!" She joked, lightly hitting his arm. He shook his head laughing.
"Yeah, yeah. Not everyone can be as happy as you." He told her, a smile left on his face. Y/n nodded, pulling out her phone.
"I guess you should give you my number, eh?" She asked him, handing her unlocked phone to him. He grabbed it, putting in his contact information, then handed it back to her.
"Gym partner Kevin? Nice name. Really rings a bell." She teased, quickly shooting him a text. His phone's ring tone was one, shortly playing a bit of Bob Jovi's 'Living On a Prayer'. His face reddened, pulling out his phone slightly embarrassed.
"Living on a prayer? Nice choice!" Y/n told him, smiling. She admired the man in front of her. He was the perfect person to keep her in check and to keep her tamed. And although she can't be tamed, her heart certainly can.
