Hold your every breath,
because life is for the living
In the water.Keep your arms above the waves,
Reaching out for floating logs.
Because we fight over them,
We push people underneath. In the water.
Some are born on boats,
Some are born to swim.
We push and topple different people,
Hoping they will fall in.And there are other streams,
With different people in them.
And we hate those people,
Knowing the streams will meet.In the water.
We should stop arguing,
Because there's nobody here to watch.
And we should share these floating logs,
because we're all going to the same place.
We're all going to the same lake,
With the waterfall at the end.Because against the tide we struggle,
And against the tide we swim.
We hold our arms out to stay afloat,
But eventually we all fall in.In the water.
Note: I originally wrote this as a song but, with a couple of tweaks, I found it worked well as a poem.
