*Not an incest story*
I look outside of my window from my bedroom and saw that it was raining quite heavily. I would've want to go running but I wouldn't risk myself from catching a cold. I went outside of my room, wearing a sweater and sweatpants.
I find it ironic 'sweater' and 'sweatpants' are worn solely not for their actual purposes.
I knocked on my step-brother's room "Cameron, it's Hannah" I asked and waited for his response.
".....Come in" I heard a soft voice said.
I opened the door gently and saw my step-brother was on his bed with a few rubik's cube aligned in front of him, all were completed and the same color was on the same side.
"Hey, you want to make some cheesecake? I know you like to bake them when it's raining" I gave a reassuring smile. He glanced at me and nodded enthusiastically.
"Yes. I.. I want to bake cheesecake with you." He answered. I smiled cause he was really cute.
My dad and his mother got married 5 years ago. His dad got diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and died shortly after and my mother got divorced due to conflicts between my parents relationship with my mom's parents.
Cameron isn't a normal kid. He's quite gifted. He has Asperger's Syndrome (AS). Hence, his difficulties in socializing and along with unnatural behavior and interests. The moment I saw him, I want to protect him cause he was a cinnamon roll. We were the same age but I was the more mature despite being a few months younger. Even though it could be a bit troublesome with Cameron but we all love him dearly.
We both went downstairs and to the kitchen, we saw our parents are wearing work clothes. They were both doctors, my dad being the Head of Section. That's where they met each other.
"Honey, we just got called in saying they need us at work. Can you please stay at home and make sure everything's okay?" Dad requested. He looked over at me with pleading eyes, we were both really close.
"Sure dad. Me and Cam will be here baking cheesecake" I reassured. Mom watched us with loving glances and gave us each a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I looked over at Cam when mom went over him and saw he hesitated at first but then became relaxed cause he was used to mom's figure.
"I hope you two have a nice time together" Mom said. After her and dad finished their snacks and was ready, they told us to take care and lock the door before entering the car and drove off.
I glanced at Cam and saw he was standing awkwardly behind.
"Come on! Let's get to it" I said enthusiastically.
"Get to where?" He said looking at me confused. "I thought we were going to bake cheesecake?"
Hehe.
"Yes, Cam. That's what I meant" I smiled.
"Oh alright. Yeah!" He replied with the same enthusiasm as mine before.
You see, not only Cam lack social interaction. He also doesn't understand certain phrases and sometimes he doesn't even like some words. He thinks that words are 'slimy' and 'weird', thus his inability to express some emotions and feelings.
I took the pan and the kitchen utensils while he took out the ingredients, in a sequence he followed for the past 5 years. Starting from ingredients for the crust first, graham cracker crumbs, unsalted butter and sugar, then the fillings, cream cheese, sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract and finally heavy cream.
He set all the ingredients align on the island. Everything was straight and even flipped so front packaging was facing upward.
I set a bowl on the island and asked Cam to pass me the crust ingredients and he gave them to me one by one. We were facing each other on the other side of the island so he could see me do the work and he would be my assistant.
I mix all the 3 ingredients together until moistened and pressed the crust over the bottom of the pan until it's even. Cam waited patiently for my instruction to pre-heat the oven then set the pan to bake until golden brown.
Next would be the filling. In a mixer, I asked Cam to give me the ingredients again one by one starting with the cream cheese and mixing it with the sour cream. Then I added in eggs one at a time then stirred in the vanilla and heavy cream. Cam watched the procedure with wonder, eyes wide and fingers fidgeting on the counter top.
After mixing well, I poured the filling onto the prepared pan and bake for over 45 minutes.
I gave Cam a wide grin "We did it! High-five" I said holding my hand in front of him.
He looked at me confused again "What's a High-five?" He asked unknowingly.
I laughed. "You do it when you done something. You slap my hand like this" I said taking his hand and slapping it with my own.
"Ohh. Yeah, We did it!" He cried back with a genuine smile.
"Do you want to watch Rise of the Guardians?" I asked. It was a movie we watch for the past years after baking something. Cam's schedule needs to be in line or else he would throw a fit.
He nodded enthusiastically again. "I want to watch it" He replied.
We both went to the TV room together and I put on the CD. "Can you get us drink cans from the fridge?" I asked.
"Sure!" He went and got the drink.
We both goth comfortable on the couch and watch the movie together. I was tired and the rain padding softly on the roof and surface became a lullaby to me and I fell asleep while watching the movie.
*~*~*~*~*~*
I felt pressure on my arm and I was shaking. I opened my eyes, looked around and saw Cam was there looking apologetic.
".....Sorry for waking you, Hannah. But the oven stopped 5 minutes ago." He said, blushing.
"It's fine Cam. I'll take care of it. Give me a few minutes" I responded.
"Okay" He said resuming to watch the ongoing movie.
I sat up from my sleeping position and went over to the oven to take out the cheesecake. It was light brown color on the top but it still jiggled. I put it on top of a rack to cool down a bit before wrapping it in plastic and refrigerate it overnight.
I came back to the TV room and watch until the end of the movie with him. He looked over at me and thought of what to say for a moment.
"I'm glad you're my sister, Hannah. It was fun today" He said at last.
I smiled at what he said. He can't express himself so it was our mission to understand and interpret what he wants to say. He never said he loved anyone, not even to his mother but he would say something like 'I'm glad you're my mother' and that's still enough for us.
"I'm glad you're my brother too, Cam" I grinned.
