AWAKENING[REVAMPED EDITION]

CHAPTER VII

NEXT DAY. SCENE OF LYCAN ATTACK, FBI DIRECTORS HOUSE.

"Jesus Christ", Valentina gasped as she walked through the front gate and caught sight of the dismembered gate guard. Turning her head immediately away, she couldn't think of how savage someone had to be in order to do this type of act.

Walking past the gate and into the spacious front yard more bodies could be seen everywhere. Most were on the grass covering the greenness with a dark brown but some were hanging from the banister up on the second floor balcony. Each had their throats ripped out and several limbs missing.

Covering her mouth was all she could do to stop from throwing up as Valentina continued to see more and more death.

"Disgusting isn't it. They're fucking barbaric", Nico said bending down to examine a decapitated body close to Valentina's feet. Silently agreeing, she stepped over the body and started toward the stairs, she couldn't handle it anymore.

If only she had knew what would be inside.

Her mouth simply hung open in shock and disgust as she witnessed the scattered remains of what appeared to be the director's family. Resting a hand on her shoulder, Nico stepped forward and spoke to a few forensic experts standing near the bodies.

"This one here was his wife we believe", one said pointing to a severely mangled corpse. "She was pregnant", he continued making Nico put a hand to his forehead. "This right here appears to be his older children, both which were brutally torn apart", another expert acknowledged reaching down with gloves and picking up a small skull. "This was the baby", he whispered and handed to the open hands of the last expert who put it into a padded suitcase.

"If you are wondering where the director is, he's through that hole in the wall in the other room", he proclaimed and continued digging through the the remains of the family. Closing her eyes, Valentina let out a soft sigh and clenched both fist. "How could they do this. Kill a pregnant woman, kill a baby!!", she said in utter shock and reopened her eyes.

"Let's go see the director", Nico answered and took her hand into his. Slowly but surely, the two walked through the the destroyed house and entered the room in which the most monstrous event had taken place.

Blood was everywhere. Intestines and other body organs were plastered over the cream marble floor and the room reeked with the scent of decaying flesh. "No. No, no, no, no", Valentina said shaking her head and backing up quickly out the room and walking out the house.

Nico watched in curiosity and wondered how a human could be so weak. How they couldn't stand to see a dead body, let alone one that had been ripped apart. Looking around the room, he spotted three agents with their backs toward him talking to yet another forensic scientist.

Focusing his hearing in their direction he leaned against a wall and listened in. "This was definitely a lycan attack, but the thing is, I think the director was also a lycan", the scientist explained moving his hands slightly. "Given the evidence we have and the position he died in, he should have died when he was thrown through that outer wall. His back should have broken instantly along with the smaller upper neck bones. Also internal bleeding would have occurred."

"And none of this was present when you examined the body earlier this morning?", one agent asked writing on a notepad. "No", the scientist answered."

"Interesting", another agent said and turned to look towards the body noticing an agent against a wall grinning widely.

SAME DAY. FBI UNDERGROUND LABORATORY. THREE HOURS LATER

"The process is almost complete", Mr.Mito announced as he stepped out of the operating room and into the commons area where Valentina and a few other agents stood waiting. "Another short five minutes and it should be done", he continued and walked toward Valentina taking her aside.

"Your father, do not tell him about this operation agent", he started looking straight into the eyes of a worried Valentina.

"Why not", she asked in suspicion.

"Because of the history your father has had with lycans, if he were to find out about this it would cause great suffering physically and mentally. Your father would most likely try to kill himself but won't be able to due to the healing properties of lycans. Therefore he will slowly envelope himself into a state of madness. Do you understand?"

"Yes sir."

"Good", he replied and stepped away back into the operation room.

"So what's the status on your dad?"

Facing the sound of the voice, Valentina came face to face with Nico who was standing in the shadows. "He'll be out in about five minutes", she responded looking past him and into the distance. She could never bring herself to look into his face, it was handsome but something was off about it. His face always seemed to be hiding something and she would often get the vibe he was fighting insanity.

However, he was cute and she thought that one day the two should get to know each other a little better. But today was not that day.

"So how did the rest of the investigation at the director's house go?", she asked and sat in a nearby chair facing the operations get room door.

"You could have known if you hadn't ran out", he laughed and too sat down.

Giving a sheepish smile, Valentina waited as he got himself comfortable and continued to talk.

"He was a lycan", Nico muttered in a very serious tone.

"That's impossible Nico. He, he hated lycans. How could he be one?"

"I don't know", Nico lied and turned toward the operation room door as he caught the scent of something approaching the other side.

"They're getting ready to bring out your father", Nico said changing the subject before she could ask anymore questions.

With an eager look, Valentina turned her position toward the door and watched as two figures holding hands stepped out of the operation room.

One was Mr.Mito and other,

Was her father.
