Chapter 12

Iliana’s POV

We sat outside of Cassidy’s house in my car. I had parked along the curb so as to not take up her parents parking places in the driveway. The silence in the car was almost insufferable. I kept stealing glances at her. Why won’t she say anything? Is it really that bad? My heart sunk. ‘I’m not good enough for her,’ I thought to myself.

Cassidy’s POV

We sat in Iliana’s car in front of my house for a long while. It was really quiet. I noticed she kept stealing glances at me and it had my heart racing. I was so nervous. How do I tell her that I want to be with her? What if I scare her away? I wouldn’t be able to live if she rejected me. Just the thought broke my heart.

I let out a small sigh and looked over at her.

Iliana’s POV

I heard Cassidy sigh and glanced over at her out of the corner of my eye yet again. This time I noticed she was looking at me and she almost looked nervous. I heart stuttered at the thought, but I quickly pushed it away. There’s no way she’d be interested. She’s probably just trying to figure out the best way to tell me that we can’t be friends anymore because she knows what I’m thinking and it disgusts her.

I groaned to myself and turned to look back at her. She reached out and pulled my hand that was closest to her from the steering wheel. She held it in hers and intertwined out fingers. My heart leapt for joy and little electric currents traveled through my body, emanating from where her skin touched mine. Is this really happening? No. It can’t be. She’s probably just trying to let me down easy.

“Cass?”

“Yeah?”

“I need to ask you something.”

“What is it?” She looked a little worried and she released my hand. The currents disappeared and it saddened me. I forced the nerves away and grabbed her hand back in mine. She looked up at me again and a small smile played across her lips. “What do you need to know?”

“Well, I have to explain something first, otherwise it may just confuse you.”

“Ok..” She drew out the ‘o’ a little. It was cute when she did it and I smiled at the thought.

“Well, I had this really weird dream the other night.” I paused, not quite sure how to continue. She brought her other hand up to where our hands were and began to draw small circles across the back of mine. I sighed contentedly and took a deep breath before continuing. “I dreamt,” I paused again and looked over at her. She smiled and nodded her head as if she were trying to tell me to continue. “I dreamt,” I repeated, “that I somehow… Ugh, this is going to sound absolutely crazy… I dreamt I turned into a raven.” I rushed the last part out barely above a whisper.

Cassidy stopped drawing circles on my hand and looked up into my eyes. I could have sworn a saw a flash of ‘knowing’ cross her face, but she quickly settled it into a content smile and began to draw the circles again.

“Any way, while I was this raven, I was flying around town. You know, just checking out the sights.” She nodded, not looking up. “I came across this one house and…” She stopped drawing the circles again but didn’t look up at me. I could hear the hitch in her breathing as I continued my story. “I saw you and Trinton. You were outside of the house with a bunch of other people I didn’t really pay any attention to. You were fighting and then this guy came out of the house and said something about training your wolves. I know, it doesn’t really make any sense, but the next part is even weirder. You see, in my dream… well, you kind of transformed into wolves. You were this gorgeous midnight black wolf and Trinton was as white as snow. You began to fight again and I kind of just flew off after that.” I stopped and looked over at her nervously.

She sighed and pulled her hand from mine.

Cassidy’s POV

I can’t believe what she just told me. What could this possibly mean? Was she really that raven I had seen on Monday night? Would she believe me if I told her that I didn’t think it was a dream? Would she freak out when she finds out that I’m a werewolf? And, most important of all, how the hell did she transform into a raven? I had never heard of that before. I’m going to have to ask Alpha Grayson about that. Maybe he’ll have some answers.

I looked over at her and realized she was just as nervous about this whole thing as I was. “Do you really think it’s weird?” I asked her.

She looked a little surprised, but returned my question with one of her own. “Do I think what’s weird? The transforming or the dream itself?” I really hate when people do that.

“The…” I paused, not quite sure if I should continue. “The transforming this,” I almost whispered.

She looked a little confused. “I’m not really sure. I mean, it’s kind of cool, but at the same time, stuff like that can’t really happen. Can it?”

“I need to know if you can keep a secret. I need you to trust me and I need to be able to trust that you won’t freak out on me when I tell you.” I looked at her and put on my most serious face, which is hard because I hate to be serious.

“Ok,” she spoke softly, looking at me as if I had lost my mind. I probably had. I shouldn’t be telling her this so early. I hadn’t even convinced her to give me a chance yet. Christ, dad’s going to kill me… that is, if Alpha Grayson doesn’t get to me first.

“Ana… There are many things in this world that remain hidden, many things that are kept from many of the ‘people’ that walk the Earth. I…” I paused and took a breath. “I am one of those things.” I looked at her expecting her to call me crazy or give me some sort of look that would clearly state that she thought I had gone insane. Her reaction surprised the hell out of me.

“So it’s true, then? My dream, I mean. It wasn’t really a dream, was it?”

I shrugged. “I don’t really know. I mean, have you ever turned into a raven before?”

She shook her head. “No, but I did find this when I woke up the next morning.” She pulled out a single black feather and held it up for me to see. I reached out and touched it, definitely real. “Also, when I looked in my mirror, the necklace that I had put in my jewelry box, the one you WATCHED me put away, was around my neck. I don’t know what this means. I’m kind of scared, but at the same time, I feel safe. But, that’s only when I’m with you. I don’t want to scare you off or freak you out, but, I think I may have feelings for you that extend beyond friendship.” With the last part said, she cringed, as if she was waiting for me to blow up on her.

I know I had to have surprised her with my next move. I leaned over and pecked her gently on her lips. Her body went rigid and her eyes snapped open. An adorable blush crept across her cheeks

“I feel the same way, Ana. Come on, I want you to meet my parents.” I climbed out of her car and stretched my muscles. We had been in there for way too long. She climbed out from her door and mimicked my movements before walking around the front of the car and towards me. Her next move left me breathless. She wrapped her arms around my neck and pulled me into the most amazing kiss I had ever had.

‘This girl is going to drive me insane’

A/N: I know it's short and it kind of sucks, but keep in mind this whole thing is a rough draft. Once I finish writing the story as a whole, I plan on going through and refining it, polishing all the rough edges, and lengthening out the shorter chapters. Hope you liked it, I know it's not one of my better ones.
