Chapter 17

Unknown Woman’s POV 16 years ago

“She must go with a family outside the tribe,” the woman said as she leaned back in her office chair.

“Why?” The man sitting on the other side of her desk asked her.

“It is the path she must take. It is what will lead her to her destiny.”

The man nodded and left her office. The woman sat forward and opened the laptop on her desk. There were four folders on the screen. She opened the first and read over the description of the family contained within it. She shook her head and closed it out. She opened two more and did the same. With the fourth, her breathing came to a near standstill.

‘This is the family’ she thought. ‘This is where she must go’

She picked up the phone on her desk and made a call.

“I’ve found the perfect family.” There was a pause as she listened to the voice on the other side of the line. “Yes, their names are Marianna and Gregory Fulton. Get in touch with them as soon as you can.”

Cassidy’s POV Present day

Ana had left suddenly and I couldn’t help but be a little anxious as to where she could have gone. I could have followed her easily enough. Her scent would lead me to wherever she had gone, but she had made it clear she didn’t want to be followed. Not long after she left, there was a new presence at the table.

“You must be Alpha Grayson’s son,” the boy said. “My name is Charles Nickels. My sister and I just moved here.” He held his hand out to Trinton.

“Trinton, it is pleasure to meet you. Where is your sister at? I was hoping to meet you both at the same time.” Trinton responded as he shook the guys hand.

“She’s around here somewhere. She’s rather shy, so she tends to avoid large crowds.” The guy said as he took the seat next to me. He turned to me and smiled. It would have made him more handsome, had it not been for the fact that he had taken Ana’s seat.

“Someone’s sitting there,” I told him, trying to hide the annoyance in my voice.

His smile broadened and he reached out and started to run his hand up and down my arm. “I won’t tell if you don’t. So, what’s your name?”

“Her name is none of your business and she already has a mate.” Gentry spoke up in my defense.

“But she hasn’t mated with him yet, which makes her open game,” the guy smiled mischievously.

Suddenly, the guy was thrown from the chair and across the room. He landed in a heap against the far wall. I looked over my shoulder and jumped up as soon as I saw Ana. I ran to her and wrapped my arms around her, holding her close and breathing in her scent. My wonderful mate.

Three days later…

We sat around the large campfire awaiting Alpha Grayson and Trinton’s appearance. This was the first pack meeting held for the members of the pack that are too young to attend the normal meetings. Ana had been invited as well. I’m guessing that what Alpha Grayson had to say concerned her as well, even though she wouldn’t technically be a part of our pack until we completed the mating process.
