"Aha! There you are!" Bagman strode over and clasped Percy on the shoulder firmly.
"Sorry," Percy apologized. "There was a... telek-- never mind."
But Bagman wasn't listening. "When the audience has assembled, I'm going to be offering each of you this bag, from which you will each select a small model of the thing you are about to face!" He shook a silk purple bag in their faces. Percy swore he heard a screech, as if the things in the bag were playing tug of war with each other.
"There are different-- er-- varieties, you see. And your task is to collect the golden egg!"
Percy nodded absentmindedly before walking away and flopping on an armchair. He could hear the crowd slowly walking in as he studied his wand. He never thought he would need it for a life and death situation, but here they were. Thank the gods he could use his powers too-- no one ever specified against it. Not that they knew. Well Dumbledore knew, but--
"Percy!" Harry reached over and shook his shoulder. "We're picking the dr-- the things now."
Percy snapped out of his daze. "Right." His attention was focused on the noise of the audience as they each drew the dragons, one by one.
"Swedish Short-Snout," Bagman announced as Percy pulled his hand from the bag. The bag man-- er, Bagman bounced excitedly on the balls of his feet. "Remember, you have to collect the golden egg. Good luck!"
Time flew by as Percy stepped in the back of the tent. "Aguamenti," he muttered over and over. "Aguamenti Maxima. Agua Eructo." Soon the dirt in front of him was soaked with water. He heard the crowd roaring as Fleur went up, then Viktor. Harry. Percy looked longingly at his pocket before stepping in, his wand ready.
Then he stepped out into the arena.
Immediately, the flashback hit him hard. The roaring crowd, like the ghosts of the dead Romans cheering for blood. The dragon standing in front of him like the twin giants, Otis and Ephialtes. The judges watching unconcernedly (well, Karkaroff and Madame Maxime) like Dionysus, who couldn't care less about their deaths.
Percy lifted his wand, which was laughably light and flimsy compared to his sword.
The dragon roared and charged, flames swirling from its nostrils.
"Agua Eructo!" Percy yelled. A wall of water formed in front of him, extinguishing the firey column before it reached him. "Aguamenti Maxima!" A jet of water shot out with the force of a watercannon, splattered directly in the dragons face. Percy then lifted his hand (with his wand in said hand) and clenched his fist tighter. The water gathered in a bubble around the dragon's head. It thrashed, trying to shake the water off. "Aguamenti Maxima!" Percy yelled again, and a fresh burst knocked the dragon's head back. Percy darted across the rocks, now wet and slippery from the water droplets that rained down from the dragon. Percy let the water drop from the dragon as he slid and rolled underneath the dragon, between it's legs, and grabbed the egg.
"Agua Eructo!" Percy pointed his wand upward, and the wall of water formed above his head again. The dragon snapped at it, but retreated as it felt the water. The dragon had almost drowned, and it wasn't in a hurry to do it again.
Percy didn't let the water drop until he was all the way across the arena. Only then was he aware of the cheering crowd all around him. Percy took in a long breath before stepping back into the tent, only to be tackled in a hug by Annabeth.
"You did it Seaweed Brain!" She shouted.
Percy grinned. "What, were you expecting me to die? Thanks for the vote of confidence."
"No, I mean you did it! You got the highest score!"
Percy dropped his egg. "I did what?"
"You got the highest score!" Annabeth repeated. "You were the fastest and the most efficient! They were all impressed with your'wordless magic' when you forced the water bubble around the dragon."
Percy grinned wider and bent to pick up his egg. "Sweet!"
"Miss Chase," Madam Pomfrey bustled up impatiently. "I'm not sure how you got in here, but I assure you I will take care of Mister Jackson. I have ambrosia, now shoo."
Annabeth slipped out of the tent.
"That was dangerous." Madam Pomfrey bustled around, inspecting Percy. "Dragons-- the very thought of them! What were they thinking?"
Percy shrugged. "I dunno."
"And you!" Madam Pomfrey exclaimed. "What were you thinking with wandless magic? No wizard is able to bend water with such precision-- you could've revealed our world to the ministry!"
Then she huffed and, deciding that Percy wasn't hurt, turned to help Fleur before Percy could ask what she meant.
This one was shorter than my normal amount, but I wanted to get it up quickly
