Now Playing: Cissy Strut by The Meters
For Bo's Diner, the morning consisted of nothing but problematic guests. Even though an elderly woman claimed that her eggs were made of rubber, and raised her voice in front of everyone demanding a refund, the smile on Sara's face did not fade in the slightest. A stranger had walked into the diner yesterday, and for whatever reason, Sara couldn't shake him. He was mysterious to say the least, and she was determined to figure him out. She was looking forward to more of their conversations about music, and she hoped that he'd also show her around Atlanta a bit. She kept averting her attention towards the clock as she served customers, wanting nothing more than her shift to be over already.
Eric had noticed this, and often yelled her name from the kitchen to keep her focused. He often got on her nerves, but Sara always opted to nod her head and remain silent. She couldn't afford to lose her job even though there were many things she wanted to express to him in a not-so-friendly manner. With a heavy sigh escaping her, she approached a booth that was waiting to be served. She eyed the three of them, taking in their distinct appearances. One was a woman, dressed in a leather pink jacket and tattered jeans. Her long brown hair cascaded down her shoulders as she shot the man next to her a wide smile. Sara observed the male, hair slicked back and clothed in a trench coat.
"You two are sickening." Quipped the other man who sat across from the couple, tattoos covering his arms that were folded across his chest. The woman seemed to notice Sara standing there, and bumped shoulders with her partner. "We'll take three Cokes." She stated, and before Sara could jot that down, the other guy from across the table spoke. "No, I'll take a coffee." He protested, earning himself a roll of the eyes from the other two. "And how would you like that?" Sara questioned quietly. She was beginning to feel very uneasy, and she could sense that there was tension among the group.
"Black." He replied, and with that, Sara quickly scribbled down their order before rushing off towards the kitchen. She had served many grumpy customers, mostly people who hadn't received their daily dose of caffeine before work, but not like this. These people were quite intimidating, and Sara was tempted to ask Jasmine to take her place and serve them. She grabbed two plastic cups, filling them each with the requested fountain drink. She also grabbed a mug, filling it to the brim with coffee.
Snatching a tray from the counter-top, Sara placed all the cups on it before carrying it towards the group. She was slow with her movements, careful to not spill the drinks all over the place. With the mood that they were all in, she knew that could end pretty terribly. Once she reached their table, she caught them mid-argument. Eyeing them suspiciously, Sara placed their orders down in front of them before stepping away. "Do you guys need more time to order?" She kept her eyes on the woman, mostly because she seemed the least scary out of them. "No, this is all we're getting." The lady spoke, taking out a twenty dollar bill and sliding it across the table. "Keep the change." She gave Sara a look, one that basically said 'leave us alone now'.
Sara would've thanked them for the gracious tip, but instead she grabbed the cash and spun on her heel. God, that was frightening. Her eyes looked up at the clock then, though her heart was still beating rapidly against her chest. About twenty more minutes and she would be done with work for the day, and more importantly, she'd see Baby once more. The group that she had just served abruptly got up, each of them storming out of the diner. She looked at the table, finding that the cokes hadn't even been touched. The coffee, however, looked empty. With eyebrows furrowed, Sara wondered what their deal was.
She took care of a few customers before the bell rang once again, telling her that another had walked in. She was getting ready to greet them with her signature fake smile, but then realized that it was the one person she had been looking forward to seeing all day. Sara waved at him, a silly grin immediately adorning her lips. He approached her, his tall figure hovering over her much smaller one. She could hear some tune playing from the earbuds that he had in, but the sound became quieter as he removed one. "Hey." He greeted, and while it seemed like he was happy to see her, something felt off for some reason. "Give me just a few minutes and I'll be ready, okay?" Sara spoke, to which he simply responded with a nod. She made her way towards the back, gathering her things and putting on her jean jacket.
"I'll see you tomorrow." Said Eric, and to her surprise, he didn't seem upset with her for once. She slung her purse over her shoulder, walking towards Baby. He was wearing a pair of sunglasses now, and was shuffling with his iPod as he waited by the door. "Let's get out of here." Sara said excitedly, causing Baby to chuckle at her enthusiasm. She opened up the door, feeling the cool breeze against her skin as Baby followed. Her eyes eagerly scanned the parking lot while Baby approached a red Subaru. He looked back at her then, nodding his head towards the passenger side. "Hop in."
