   "You're fired!"

Those were two words I never actually thought would slide off the end of Ms. Diamond's tongue. Her eyes were narrowed and held a fiery rage of hatred as she stood before me. Her visage was dim as she struggled to remain calm, her anger from the confusing situation making her quiver with rage.

I stood slumped over before her, my eyes wide and my limbs trembling. Why would I be fired for Jasper going against the law? Why was she acting like I was guilty when I called the police and distracted Jasper?

"M-Ms. Diamond, may I ask why I was fired? May I remind you that I contacted the police which led to Jasper being captured and taken away!"

Ms. Diamond's eyebrows furrowed and she shook her head slowly in disapproval. "You were to weak and scared to fight back against Jasper yourself. It also turns out from what my officers reported to me, that you may have a connection with the other fugitive," she scowled.

Oh, that made sense. Lapis Lazuli, the other criminal. The girl stood in front of me when the police arrived, as if she was trying to protect me from being fired down. She pleaded that I was innocent and had no idea of Jasper's ambitious, menacing plan of escaping.

I may have tried to defend her as well. What could I say? The woman didn't look like a criminal at all and she even defended me, a total stranger to her eyes. I could also tell that Jasper was extremely abusive her from the bruises and enraging behavior Jasper showed towards Lapis. She must have been forced to do this all under Jasper's will. She was apprehensive of what Jasper would do to her, so she had to do his commands.

"Ms. Diamond! I tell you from the deepest pits of my heart that she is completely innocent! Jasper must have abused her and threatened her into pulling off these actions! That night she was 'caught' by cameras without her mask, she looked right at them without her mask on purpose. I have gathered all the evidence I can to tell you that she-"

"Ms. Green."

My bosses voice was sturdy and rough, though low and ice cold. She turned and adjusted herself back into her desk, opening a folder and reading it. "She is innocent, as said by the jury yesterday at her court case. But you are still fired no matter what. You aren't fit to fit anymore cases. Go on Ms. Green, go find a job more suitable for your personality."

My attention wasn't fully focused on the fact that I was truly fired, but the fact that Lapis was actually pleaded innocent. I knew that she had her court case yesterday, exactly only five days from the incident, but I never knew that the jury would actually find her innocent at all. Sure I believed from the bottom of my heart that Lapis was innocent, but the Jury somehow thought the same?

With a quiet sigh, I removed my badge from my uniform and nodded slowly to my former boss. "I understand..," I mumbled as I dropped my badge onto her desk.

She only watched through narrowed eyes as I turned and stepped towards the door. My steps were slow and my breathing was loud, for it seemed everything was crumbling to dust around me. My heart thundered against my chest and my hand shook as if the earth was quaking beneath me as I reached for the doorknob. Twisting it open and sliding through, I took my last and final step out of the office. I was officially no longer part of the police force.

Then I remembered something and whirled around to stop the door before it shut. Before I could speak, Ms. Diamond spoke up first as if she knew what I was going to ask.

"Keep your uniform. Knowing how much you sweat when you're scared, it may as well be soaked and no use at all. Make sure you drop your weapons off though, they are no use to you."
