lakestar growled, his face twisting into a snarl. he kicked at heronstar's soft-furred belly, snagging his claws in her ears, ripping the thin flesh.

the riverclan leader hissed, slashing lakestar's cheek before toppling off of him. she nearly fell off the branch, but grabbed the bark, wrenching herself back on before he could flee.

lakestar's fur bushed out as she jumped back in his way. the two stood still as cats whirled around below. the other two leaders had scattered; barkstar had leapt from the tree and was gathering her warriors while casting backwards glances at them, while antstar's tiny figure had scrambled into the highest branches and was hidden away among the shadows, her golden eyes flashing dimly in the chaos.

heronstar leapt forward, digging her claws into lakestar's shoulders. both leaders crashed down. lakestar screeched as his hind legs slipped off the branch, dangling midair as heronstar gripped onto his forepaws. his heart thundered in his chest as the two stared eye-to-eye.
