Nami: You still live in that 2 bedroom?
You: Yeah. Why?
Nami: I have a friend whose complex burned down and they need a place to stay. Can we meet up?
You: Uh. Sure I'm on my way home. I can meet you at Greenberry at 6.
Nami: Great! See ya then!
You gathered your things at your desk and made your way out of the office building. As you arrived at your car your phone began to ring. You hurried into the vehicle to connect the call hands free.
"Hi mom." You sighed.
"Hi honey! It took you long enough, what are you doing?" She chirped.
"I was getting in the car. What's up?" You drove out of the parking lot as raindrops began to patter on the windshield.
"Well you know the family reunion is coming up and I know you didn't have a plus one. Marylu's son Fernando is single and you kids always got along so well."
"Mom seriously. Not this again." You groaned.
"Well how am I ever going to have grandkids if you refuse to settle down?" She whined.
"I - I have a boyfriend mom."
That'll shut her up.
"Oh? Then you won't mind bringing him out to meet us." Her voice was laced with doubt.
"We haven't been dating long. I don't want to freak him out." You countered.
"Don't be ridiculous. It'll be fun. And if you don't bring him I'll invite Fernando."
Ugh.
"Fine mom. Look it's raining here so I have to go." You squinted through the drops on the windshield.
"OK sweetheart. We'll see you soon! Love you!" She called.
"Love you too." You smirked ending the call.
I'll just have to break up with my imaginary boyfriend before the trip.
You pulled into the parking lot at the coffee shop.
"F/N!" Nami called from a corner table.
She sat next to a familiar young man with mossy green hair.
That's why she didn't say who it was.
You and Zoro had never gotten along. He was always so smug and unfriendly.
"Hey guys." You slouched into the empty seat across from them.
Zoro lifted his chin but didn't actually say anything.
"Hey!" Nami sang.
"So, what's up?" You asked waving a server over.
"Well like I text you; this guy's apartment complex burned down. Robin and I don't have space, Luffy lives with his "brothers" and well Sanji and Zoro kind of hate each other."
"I guess I don't mind. I have a spare room and the help with rent wouldn't be so bad." You shrugged.
"About that." Zoro broke his silence, "I don't have much saved right now. But I should be starting a new job soon."
"We'll have to start a tab then. But sure, you can bring your stuff over when you're ready."
I'm not heartless enough to leave the poor guy homeless.
"His stuff is in my car. We can just transfer it to yours before we leave." Nami sipped her Frappuccino.
"Uh sure." You faked a smile.
