Remus
Remus couldn't wait to get out of his fathers reach and onto the train, he didn't even bother to cross the wall and bid him fare well. But as he got on the train his relief was short lived, 'what did I expect that people would accept me? How did I think that I would find friends here, I'm different.' As Remus started to worry more and more he quickly found an empty carriage. Remus curls himself into a tight ball and looked out the window. His father had warned him that his secret would get out and that he would never get accepted. His Lycanthropy made life very hard and he just didn't want to hurt anyone. I mean what would he do through the full moons? Where would he stay?
"So, what house do you think you'll be in Potter." Two voices boomed down from the other end of the hall. The only reason Remus could hear them was that it was close to the full moon, and all his senses were frightful amplified "Oh Gryffindor for sure, my family have all been in that house for generations. What about you Black, Slytherin?"
"Oh god no." The other voice seemed rather perturbed by this statement. The voices were getting louder as the people they belonged to were getting closer. "Just because my family is all Slytherin doesn't mean I have to be one. plus it will annoy the hell out of them if I get sorted into Gryffindor." Suddenly the door started to slide over reveal two first year boys. One with long black silky hair that covered his grey eyes a bit. The other one was a tad taller and had messy shortish black hair with hazel eyes and rectangle glasses. they both seemed to me no taller than Remus and really no different than him.
"Oh sorry." The taller one stated, "Mind if we sit here?" Remus barely even looked up from his position and gestured towards the seats opposite him. "I'm James Potter by the way, and this is Sirius Black." He held out a hand in a way that seemed to say 'Hi I don't really like you and have no intention of becoming your friend but I am going to make an effort be nice to you so here's a handshake.' Remus, who had no intention of coming off impolite held out a slightly shaky hand. "I'm er Remus... R-Remus Lupin." The boy said it so quietly that if they had been any further away they wouldn't have heard it. Just as Sirius and James started to give each other a look the door handle turned once again to expose a small boy with blue eyes and scruffy pail blond hair.
"Hi, um can I by any chance maybe sit here. I mean it's just because everywhere else is full." He said it in a way which doesn't even remotely hide that fact that he is scared. "Oh um, sure. I'm James Potter, and this is Sirius Black and Remus Lupin." He said gesturing to each of us. "Oh right um, I'm Peter, Pettigrew. He seemed a tad wary at the mention of Sirius' name. "Don't worry mate, I'm not like the rest of the blacks... And I won't bite your head off to either. Though thinking about it, my cousin probably would." Peter gave an unsure laugh and sat down next to Remus, though as far away from him as possible. They somehow got on the subject of what year they were in and found out they were all starting as well as Remus. Though Remus was trying to sleep. That was one of the many talents of Remus Lupin. he seemed to have the ability to sleep at any time of the day, absolutely anywhere. But not today.
"You think he's asleep?" James inquired. "He sure as hell looks it, although I'm not sure how. I mean who can get to sleep on a train, especially one as noisy as this one." But Remus was listening, and curious as to why they cared if he was asleep. "He seems a bit weird. I mean I don't know what it is, but I'm not quite sure that he's right in the head." James stated. "He seems a bit batty. Looney Lupin." this time it was Sirius who was talking.Although Pete didn't say anything Remus could hear murmurs of agreement coming from his mouth, and Remus didn't want to hear any more. This time, he actually got to sleep.
Remus was awoken to a hand violently shaking his shoulder. "Come on mate, we're gonna be late." He looked up only to catch a glimpse of Sirius Black stepping out of the compartment. When he looked out the window Remus say that Black was correct, they'd arrived at Hogsmeade station and teachers and prefects were trying to round up students, mainly the first years. Slowly but surely he made his way through the train and onto the platform. There were so many people he didn't know where to go and honestly, he was starting to feel a tad claustrophobic. Finally following at the end of the crowd he made his way to a beautiful river. and standing right before him was the beautiful glowing building of Hogwarts School of magic. He looked up in awe at the imposing towers that reflected of the water in the moonlight. Although noticing this made him feel incredibly ill. He knew that the full moon was only a week or so away, he could feel it. The wolf, clawing at his skin, trying to break out from the inside. As soon as his mind came back into focus he promised himself that he would not let the monster inside spoil this day for him.
After getting off the boats he starts to walk along the path winding closer towards the forest he follows the students to the carriages that seem to be taking the students to the tower. Remus had read a lot about Hogwarts in the weeks before. Right after he and his father went to Diagon Ally he had read most of his school books at least twice. Well, the ones he could understand anyway. And from what he could remember the carriages move by themselves. He turned around to look at an older kid (most likely a seventh year) wondering if he should ask him. For Remus didn't see nothing, he saw big grey horse like creatures. But his anxiety got the better of him and decided to keep his mouth shut. 'What if they laughed at him? Or thought he was insane like James, Sirius and Peter?' Remus just really hoped that he never has to see them ever again.
Sirius
This was the moment of truth. As much as he might have hated to admit it, this is the decision that will affect his life. His family already hates him with all their non-existent hearts but this could be the turning point. If the hat put him into Gryffindor surely they wouldn't disown an 11-year-old? He wanted so much to disobey his family but he was scared out of his wits. 'What would they do to him?' Still, his new found friend was beside him so he needed to put up one hell of a good act to make him believe that he's all cool about it. And then maybe, just maybe, he may start to believe the lie himself.
"So what house do ya reckon that Loony will get to? He doesn't seem to care about other people and by hell is not brave, he couldn't even work up the courage to hold one conversation." Sirius said trying to distract himself from the chaos that was going on in his head. "Well there's no way he'd be able to survive with the Slytherins, he'd get eaten alive," James answered. "I mean if he gets into Gryffindor then I'm a Slytherin." Then they both started to laugh. It was a nice laugh, a real laugh. Sirius hadn't laughed in a long time and he started to feel very happy about his new found friendship. Even if it was with a family that his has hated for centuries. Perhaps that's why he made friends with him in the first place.
"James Potter." Dumbledore roared across the hall. A slightly nervous James gave Sirius and Pete a thumbs up before making his way up to the hat. "Ah another Potter, well this is easy. GRYFFINDOR." The hat bellowed so loud that James thought his ears might as well fall off. Cheers come from the Gryffindor table but die down as the headmaster yelled the next name. After a few names, the one he had most been scared off came crashing down on him.
"Sirius Black," he yelled so loud Sirius might as well have fallen off his seat. A shaky Sirius started to get up and make his way towards the seat. "Hmm a Black, well this should be fun. You're not quite like the rest of your family. You don't quite belong in Slytherin, but then you do show many of the qualities." "No no no please don't put me in Slytherin." "I see, you're worried what your family will do to you, but when it comes down to it u don't feel like your even a Black. Well, in that case. better be GRYFFINDOR." But there was no noise coming from the hall. not even a whisper. everyone was just so shocked that a Black would be a Gryffindor. Then out of nowhere the Gryffindor table erupted into cheers. Sirius had never felt like he was part of a family, and now, perhaps he will be.
"Remus Lupin." Dumbledore howled to try to restore peace and order to the room. A trembling Remus slowly stood up and slowly made his way over to the hat. "Like I said, if he's in Gryffindor I'm a Slytherin," James whispered to him. "Yeah and I'm a big black dog." Sirius couldn't really see what was going on over the crowd of heads but he could tell that Remus had been up there for far longer than any of the other first years. Finally, the hat screamed GRYFFINDOR and the room started to cheer. "Well, I'll be damned," James said with disbelief. "Let's just hope we don't end up in a dorm with him."
"Then we'd have to have to share with him for 7 years," Sirius said quietly. Then down hoped a small Remus and made his way over to the table. He made sure that he was as far away from anyone that might be first years.
