Chapter 8 ~ You Can’t Break Me

The natives had trouble loading me into a bigger fenced in area than I had been in before. There were more painted ponies around, watching me with distaste, curiosity, and envy. I kick out at them but they flash bright colored sheets and herd me with their pets of horses. I galloped around the enclosure, my ears pinned and my teeth bared at all the natives that gather around, the man Broken Twig who was challenging me was standing on one corner, examining me.

Soon as I realized my rampage was doing nothing, I stopped in the middle of the arena and stared at him. He glared at me with a burning hatred, the rat was trying to pass the message that I would become like those pets, I swished my tail in annoyance. You can’t break me, I’m free.

Soon the ponies with the natives on their back entered the arena and put roped around me again as I kick out but it was no use, they just roped my legs too until I had to stand completely still, crushed between the two sides of the ponies, two more on either front or back of me so I couldn’t dart or back away, I was boxed in. A heavy thing was forced on my back, and a nasty skin of leather in my mouth that I couldn’t bite through that also extended around my head. I pinned my ears and fought as hard as I could, but I couldn’t with being crowded, not sure where the horrible instruments were coming from.

Soon I looked like any other painted pony as they stayed around me, a figure approaching. I swivel my head to see Broken Twig approaching me. He jumped up and slid over the rump of one of the horses and onto my back. This weight was not pleasurable as he yanked back on my head, the trap around it making me so as he says, I fought.

The ponies broke away from me as I began bucking, kicking, screaming in protest at this man on my back. The wild was never meant to be tamed.

I slammed him into the sides of the enclosure, splintering some of it with my force, rolled on the ground and then a thought popped in my head after my rage. He only got more and more violent with my delicate head, and whipping my still scabbed rump I acted like he had won. Stopping and walking around with the natives speaking among one another. He was speaking to them in a tone that said he had victory, giving a long speech about how stupid the wild was, how every animal could be broken at some point even the wildest ones like I.

I smirked, Only if you knew, native.

I bucked as he had relaxed and he flew up in the air, I jumped over him as he landed in the dust with an audible thud and the air left his body. I jumped the fence as the natives on horseback quickly moved after me; freedom had been so close, until that rope landed around my neck. I’m so sorry Esperanza! I thought as I was forced by four horses back into my pen, the walls built higher.

I’m coming, I promise, this is just one obstacle in my way. I will find you, Esperanza, I will save you.
