Chapter 5 ~ Finding Esperanza

"Wha-what?" The only boy, the almost three year old colt was stuttering at what I just requested of him. "Strider, i'm not sure if I can handle this responsibility..."

I looked down at the colt, I was only a few hands taller than him, I assumed he'd be as tall as me soon. He was a well built boy, a well muscled brown colt. He looked up at me with sparkling green eyes. His name was Wyoming, a wild colt who was kicked out of his herd.

"Wyoming, I know you can take care of the herd for however long I may be absent." I nudged his shoulder. "You're a strong boy, I have faith in you. Especially if i'm giving you the honor of taking care of my herd. I need to go do something important, the care of the herd is on your shoulders. Can you handle it?"

I lowered my head a fraction to look into his eyes. My mane hung down my neck and my forelock hung over my left eye. I tossed my head and the colt smirked and looked down.

"Thank you, Strider. For your trust in me. I shall take good care of them for you." He said as I trudged up to the overlook.

I reared up and whinnied, the herd looked up and whinnied back. I bid them farewell and then spun around to the wilderness of the wild west. i had to find my love.

~~~
I galloped full force into Esperanza's old living grounds in the clearing and looked around, smelling the ground for scents. I saw deep hoof marks embedded into the ground. Some blood showed one rebel horse wanted to leave and Phantom didn't let them. I hoped and prayed to the Spirit of the West that this wasn't my sweet Esperanza's blood.
I smelled the old, familiar scent of the white stallion, Phantom heading north. I snorted and pawed the ground and galloped north to my one and only love. I would save her from her tyrant of a leader.
