Leroy led me into his room that he shared with his brother. The room was split in half by two different shades of blue. You could tell who's side each was. One was covered with posters of rock bands like Pearl Jam and U2 and pictures that I suspected his brother took. Leroy's side was blank. People our age can never settle on something they liked so our future was a blank slate. The one thing that decorated his side is a picture with him and his sister and a girl I didn't recognize.
"So here it is. The ole hang spot." He paused. "Well, I guess I never really hang around anyone here, but that's for a different time."
"You can't just start talking about something then stop. C'mon, tell me...nevermind, we don't even know each other that we'll."
"Maybe we should. I know the best way how. A nice game of 20 Questions?"
"Why not?"
Leroy started. "What's your favorite color?"
"Out of all the questions in the world, that was the one you chose? If you want to know it's maroon. Here's your question. Where was Stephanie because she was definitely not in her room?
"Uuuh...she snuck out to go see her boyfriend. She has to sneak out because mom doesn't approve of him."
"Okay…I didn't need to know that much."
He smiled. Then he said something that I didn't expect.
"Cassidy, just for further notice, Cody is a douche. He doesn't care about anyone except himself. I don't even like him. And even though we just met, you deserve better."
I kept replaying his words over in my head 'you deserve better'. No one has ever said that about me before, or anything relationship wise.
"Thanks for the heads up." I said. We make eye contact and his green eyes meet my blue ones and I feel like I've seen them before.
I break the long silent stare. "Wanna keep playing?"
"Sure."
We played until Leroy asked me his 20th question. "Can I have your number?"
I looked at him as pissed as I've ever been. "I think this game is over." I storm out of the bedroom and down the stairs.
"Mom, I'm too full to eat dessert. Can we go home?"
"Sure sweetie. Wait by the front door while I go get your brother."
I wait outside by the front door. How could he not understand? I was living on the streets two months ago and he expects me to have a phone? The organization didn't give me everything I ever dreamed of, but they gave me what I needed to have a better life.
I hear voices coming from inside the house.
"Mom, why are we leaving?"
"Because your sister's not hungry for dessert."
I actually was. I just needed an excuse to get away from you know who.
The front door opens and it's my fam.
This will teach you Leroy. Not everyone has the perfect life like you.

(The next day) Approx. 3:30 pm
Before I go in side my house I grab the mail.
Huh? That's weird. I never get mail. And it's from anonymous. I walk in the house and plop my bag on the dining room table. I sit down and open it.
Dear Cassidy,
Sorry for the cliff hanger but the chapter would have been super long. Message me or write a comment about what you think. Don't forget to check out Blank Space!
