"Mom. I can't walk on my first day, I'm gonna get lost." I complained to her as she prepared her morning coffee.
"Good heavens Jacob, just have your sister drive you."
"She already left!" How did mom not see Ann leave?! She sighed,
"Fine, just get in the car."
"Thank you."

This morning was just the start to my amazing first day at Greenway high school.I walked into my homeroom as soon as I found it, only to see I was seven minutes late. Awkwardly, I walked to the first open seat I saw in the room.
"Oh, hello there. Glad you found us."
I look up and see the teacher looking me right in the face.
"Sorry." I mumbled.
"I assume you're new, so it's fine. Welcome to AP English. I am Mr.Jorge."
"Hello Mr.Jorge.""Alright, once again, welcome everyone." The class mumbled their hellos and responses.
"I would like to bring something to attention. As you may all see, my name is spelled like George." he paused, taking a breath. " BUT THAT IS NOT MY NAME!" he yelled, and it made me jump. Many students began to mumble ignorant things about Mr.Jorge.
"Sorry about that." he began, "It just gets highly annoying to me. Anyhow my name is pronounced HORHAY!" He wrote it just like that on the board as he spoke.
"See? Come on, say it with me now. HOR HAY!"
The guy next to me snickered.
"Sounds like 'hey whore'. Am I right?" the boy said with a sleazy smile. I personally thought that was immature and stupid, but I offered a small smile in response. God, I hope I don't have to be a childish idiot to fit in here, I'd never make friends.
"HORHAY" The class roared all together, while Mr.Jorge clapped his hands in delight.
"Perfect! Now let's get started!" He said in a cheerful voice, walking to his desk and sitting on top of it.
"Now who can tell me-" He began, but was interrupted by the classroom door swinging open. A very flustered girl rushed in, fifteen minutes late. Her blue eyes were clouded with what seemed to be confusion, and she had long brown hair pulled into a messy ponytail.
"Ohmygosh- I am SO sorry Mr-" She paused and pawed at what I guessed was her class schedule.
"Mr.George? Yea my car stalled and I-"
"Jorge." He cut her off, his voice sharp as a knife.
"What?" Confusion and shock played across her features.
"My name. It's Mr.Jorge. NOT GEORGE! You would know that if you were not late to the learning environment."
She wore a dejected look and said, "I'm truly sorry sir.. but it was my car."
"Can it Dedroze. I taught your sister, I've heard all your family excuses."
Wow he's being such a dick. This girl honestly seems upset about being late."I'm nothing like her." The girl answered in an acidic tone.
"Just take your seat." He said to her.
Looking defeated, she shut the door behind her and began to walk down one of the isles. Dropping her bag, she sat down next to me. I glanced over at her for a quick second, and saw nothing but hurt in her eyes. She sighed quietly, a shaky timid sound, and pulled out a notebook, placing it onto her desk.
"Students usually groan over this, but it is one of my traditions."
Oh great, I thought. This is already sounding shitty.
"When I point at you, you must state your first and last name, and tell us all something about yourself." Just as he predicted, the class erupted into a loud chorus of groans.
He ignored it and continued speaking, "You will go first." He point to the first person in the first row. "And then we shall just go in a line down the rows. Begin."
I was third in the second row, which means I only have NINE people in front of me! My palms began to sweat and a million worried thoughts bounced through my head. I have no idea what to say about myself. This is my first impression on this school, I can't mess this up. My mom's words flashed into my memory, "Just be yourself Jake. It's the best way to go."
My only answer to that is No Way! Here's how that would go, "Hi. I'm Jacob Welts and I'm a nerd with internet friends and I live on my computer!" There's no way I'm going to just be myself. I had to think of something casual - but not lame - to say about myself. Four people ahead of me now.
My brain went into overdrive, trying to think of something just right.
THREE PEOPLE!
THERE HAS TO BE SOMETHING TO SAY.
Two people!! My heart skidded, why am I overreacting like this?!?
ONE PERSON!
I. Got. NOTHING.
I stand,"My name is Jacob Welts. I enjoy listening to music, drawing, and writing."
I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding, and began to sit down, relieved.
But of course,
"You're new here right?" Mr.Jorge asks.
"Y-yes."
"Where did you move from?"
"Oregon."
"Another state? WOW! How're you liking California?"
"It's alright." I mumble, dying to sit down.
"Glad to hear that! Welcome to Cali, son."
"Thanks." I say dryly, finally sitting back down, angry that the stupid teacher kept the attention on me a lot longer than needed. I zone out, waiting for his dumb "tradition" to end. But when the girl next to me stands up I decide to listen again.
"My name is Melanie Dedroze. I like to help people who lose themselves, and I love guiding them to their true potential." She said with a smile.
"PFT! WHY DIDN'T YOU HELP YOUR SIS?" Someone yelled.
Again about her sister. What could her sister have done that everyone knows about? Maybe I could Google their last name.
"Fuck off." Melanie growled, and I raise my eyebrows at this, I'm not used to hearing girls use swear words.
"Language!" Jorge said with an angry frown.
"He asked for it. She mumbled before sitting down.
