Beyond Our Titles (Sequel to The Alpha's Omega) [Boy/Boy]: Chapter 1: Jacoby
Lauren's POV
I walked through the streets of the Demon District, my feet scuffing up the packed dirt. It was the middle of the night and I still couldn't sleep. A couple of months after Pyro came to live with me at the Grand House his father fell ill so he returned to the Grand Levi's Household for the time being...that was four months ago. Niro and Nico were currently traveling the district in search of a nice place to settle down since Nico himself was to be a father soon. So, in the end, I was left alone with nothing to do. The city was rather boring with hardly any crime, everyone lived in harmony.
I crouched low to the ground and allowed my wings to span with nothing more than a few diminutive pains. I had been practicing my flying and stealth, watching over Jay and his new pup despite the animosity he had for me...regretfully, I still loved him. Once the pup was born, a little boy named Jacoby, Mika fled - only coming close enough to see her son when Jay wasn't around. I wasn't sure why she abandoned him: whether it was out of embarrassment or just a lack of will. She would cry sometimes to, no doubt regretting her decision. I even held Jacoby once while he was crying. Jay had just gotten through an all night patrol run and was too tired to even acknowledge the baby's screaming. He was a cute little pup who looked just like his father.
I perched in a tree diagonal to Jay's tent, the light coming from within making everything like a shadow puppet's curtain. He was holding Jacoby with a bottle in his other hand. He talked to him in soft tones and the baby laughed. "He's adorable, isn't he?" I jumped at the voice, startled at the fact that I wasn't alone. "Hey Lauren."
"Kat?" I asked as I climbed around the trunk and met her on the same branch. She was perched as I was, a rope tied around her midsection that connected her to the tree. "What are you doing here?"
"Jay put on patrol in case Mika attempts to kidnap the pup...tonight it was my turn." She smiled.
Shit. How many other people knew I came here because of my carelessness? "Why are you in a tree?"
"I'm short and I could see better up here. Congrats on your new ranking by the way."
I pulled a leaf off a nearby branch and began to play with the edges of it. "What do you mean - the fact that I'm the Sayrin or the fact that I am now the enemy?" I laughed.
"Both I guess...except, you're not the enemy. Jay gave us strict orders not to think of you that way." She pulled the leaf from my fingers and smiled. "He still thinks highly of you Lauren."
"Ha, that's a surprise." My lips began to tingle at the thought of his kiss. "How old is Jacoby anyway?"
"Four months, Mika had him three and a half months too early." I started laughing, alarming her. "What's so funny?"
"Sorry - I just couldn't help wondering, since I'm half Shifter, half demon...when I have a kid would the proper name for it be 'pup' or 'spawn?'"
She laughed along with me. "I guess it would depend on it's mother..." She suddenly got silent, "Lauren, I just thought you should know, Mark imprinted on me shortly after you left."
"That's great! But if he hurts you I'll kill him." She smiled and nodded. "So when am I to expect my little niece or nephew?" I joked as I playfully rubbed her belly.
She pulled away and stuck her tongue out. "Don't jinx me - I don't want to be a mom yet." She pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin on them. "What about you - am I to expect any spawn out of you?"
