Beyond Our Titles (Sequel to The Alpha's Omega) [Boy\/Boy]: Chapter 6: More Than Perceived
Lauren's POV
"Ow." I winced away from one of the girls as she worked over my head. Evidently, I had done more damage when I hit it than I thought.
"Sorry." She quickly bowed as she had been taught to do when she was a slave over a worker.
Pyro strode into the room with a smirk on his face. "What the hell is all that racket?"
"Shut up you asshole." I winced again and finally jumped up. "That's it, I'm good. Thank you but I require no more assistance." Pyro gestured for her stay where she was before forcing me back into the seat.
"Think Lauren, you have a gash in your head that you could bleed to death from - do you really want to die because you couldn't handle a little pain?" He spoke calmly as if he had given this talk to many people besides me.
I quickly looked away from him as he began to lean forward, our lips almost touching. "Shut up. You take the pain then!" I argued defensively.
He released me and stood confidently. "Sorry, no can do." He pointed to his forehead, "Not my body." He smirked again before resting comfortably against the mantel. He waved a hand and the girl got back to work.
I stared at him with rancor. "You're an asshole." I huffed.
He shook his head. "Yes and we've established that but you need this asshole." He pulled out a small stack of papers and handed them to me. "About thirty more Specials have gone missing." I looked over the pages - each one dedicated to two of the thirty Specials. I recognized the boy that started the uproar, along with the youngest.
"What happened to the guards?" I quickly questioned, unsurprised at the disappearances.
He shrugged, "They had already been dismissed for the night."
"No - there are supposed to be guards patrolling at all hours..."
"No one will work all night!" He argued back.
"Then pay them extra." I replied simply. "Everyone would do something."
"Not everyone cares about what happens to the Specials..."
I quickly stood again. "Everyone better fucken care when we have a full out invasion and they're forced to watch their loved ones die!"
"Calm down Lauren, I'm only trying to say -"
I rubbed the bridge of my nose impatiently. "Pyro, even though they may not care about others, they do care about themselves. Who would want to watch their kids die?"
He contemplated the question for a moment. "I guess no one but no one knows about the invasion or possible war. I don't think they should know either..."
"I think you're wrong. The whole District should know what's happening to them. It'll affect everyone in the end anyway."
He walked and paused right in front of me, "Lauren, if you tell everyone that there is a possible Vampire uprising all that will do is frantic the people."
He had a point but I had my point as well. "Fine, I will only keep it until I get more information." I stormed out of the main office, the girl trailing behind me with bandages.
I stayed perched on the tree outside of Jay's tent. I was openly allowed to enter it now but I still chose to just sit here as if it erased everything that was bothering me.
