Lauren's POV

               The metal was brought to my skin, bright and shining and angry red. I screamed through one of the elder's hands as another pushed it deeper onto my skin. Tears escaped my eyes as the sickening sizzle filled my ears. I looked over at Jay and the other boys, all standing in the row with their heads hanging in shame. 

"Shame! The Omega brings shame!" Screams filled the crowd and I ran to find my mom, knowing what would happen if I stayed. "Get him!" 

All at once everyone was on me: some pulling at my arms while others pulled on my legs. "Let me go!" I cried, tears slipping down my cheeks aimlessly. "Jay, tell them to let me go!" 

"I'm sorry Lauren, I can't do that." He walked up and handed his father a knife, holding my head still to give a good view of my neck. 

"Jay..." The blade was slashed across my skin, opening a deep gash through my throat. I lay gurgling on the ground as blood filled my airway. "Jay..." 

               My eyes shot open to the dark room, my chest heaving up and down while my body was drenched in a cold sweat. "Holy shit -!" I ran my hands through my hair and attempted to calm my breathing. I haven't had much luck sleeping the past week since I was having the reoccurring nightmares but I couldn't bring myself to tell Pyro about it since he was still dealing with his father's passing. He's only been out of his room once within that whole time. 

"Lauren?" I jumped at the voice, my eyes catching the figure standing in my doorway. It was tall, lean, and comforting. "Are you okay?" 

I jumped out of bed and ran to him, like a small child would a parent. I whimpered into his shoulder, my fears taking hold of me again. 

He ran his hand down my back, "It's okay Lauren." He wrapped me in his arms and for a second I allowed myself to feel nothing. I was emotionally exhausted and wanted nothing more than to just down my sensors and sleep in the pure blackness of an endless abyss. "It's okay, what happened?" 

"They killed me! They slit my throat - I couldn't breathe." I snuggled deeper into his chest and took in his scent. Somehow it managed to calm me but it was fake...even still - I allowed it to comfort me. "What are you doing here anyway - you're supposed to be with Nico." I pulled away so I could see his face but it was blocked out by the background light. His body went rigid and he let his hands fall. "What is it? What's wrong?" I searched the blackness and opened my mind to his voice that never came. 

"You thought I was Niro - understandable...I just came to bring some unfortunate news." He turned to lean against the door frame and that's when I saw it - or rather, didn't see it. Niro's scar was missing, in its place just flawless skin that had never been touched. 

I quickly stepped back, pushing his away with more force than necessary. "Where's Niro - What happened to him?!" My heart sped up again as I mentally reached out for his voice but brought back only silence. 

Nico just looked down and all at once fell to his knees, his eyes springing with fresh tears. "I require your help. Niro's been missing, at first I thought he just wondered off but I haven't seen him in almost two weeks." His hands grabbed at the ends of my shirt as he continued to mumble but I couldn't hear anything anymore. Niro's missing and Nico was asking for my help...I couldn't really hate this guy considering he was just doing his job and he had meant no real harm to me when he erased - covered actually - my memories. "Please Lauren; I can't let him get hurt." 

"I'll do what I can but at the moment I have no leads." I spoke truthfully, knowing I would want someone to do the same for me. "Niro's only one of the many Specials that have gone missing." I hated when they were referred to as Valdescü, it wasn't their fault they had been imprisoned and forced into slavery by...Lusters. My eyes widened.
