You've taken me and made me grow under cold and snow

and I see the way you look at me with eyes that wish but restrain

You share with me little things like the coffee and mokes

the dimples on your cheeks the shape of your chin,

I grow a new branch and refuse to be belittled

I follow you to the gray in the clouds.

I see you smile and I take a new shot at another branch,

I watch myself grow under you amorously.

Your fingers and the way they settle on the wheel

Keep me underneath.

And yet I grow, I've got love in my bones now

And I feel the steady rhythm of my heart

The marching of my legs,

I blink a year

And wait to hold you.

Then I begin to feel, and it hurts.

My legs stop moving up from the ground and stop.

I begin to watch my branches snap and fall

like little bones

I step and it aches,

Yet I follow through

Like a good soldier

I forget my family,

 I forget myself.

Growing under your love

and then leaving.

To fend for myself In a warzone

Where have you gone?

I lose sight of it all and keep you

In a photo from before

when you loved like a shout.
