The sound of the school bell ringing echoed through my head as class had officially began. There was a bit of a delay earlier, which explains why we were starting late. I sat alone at a desk, whilst everyone else was accompanied with a seating partner. Worry rose in me as I reviewed my memories of yesterday: Scott and Isaac hadn't returned home. Mom and I waited a bit before trying to find Allison, Lydia, Stiles, or Kira but they were gone. They hadn't returned either. I really hoped that they didn't get captured or murdered because this was Beacon Hills; anything could happen. Tapping my pencil nervously on my desk, my mind was clouded from learning anything. My teacher managed to snap me back to reality by snapping his fingers in front of my face. "Huh?!" I glanced up towards his disapproved look, while the class erupted in laughter. A sigh squeezed between my lips as I sank down in my seat from embarrassment. There was a sound of the door opening, which caused everybody -- excluding me -- to look towards the entrance to the classroom. I waited a few seconds before craning my head, examining the people near the door.
It was another new student. The principal stood next to the student -- who was a girl. She had blue irises, the color of the ocean. The female also had long flowing dark hair, that ended just near her underarms. Her skin was milky white; quite beautiful to me. She stood there awkwardly for a second before shifting her gaze to some girl. Maybe the "new" student wasn't actually new, just late. Then what was the principal doing here? "Everyone, I have an announcement." , The principal spoke in an authoritative tone, moving to the front of the class. The "new" student -- I don't know her name -- sat down next to another female, who I recognized as Sasha. I heard someone call her name before, which is how I knew it now. "You all know Preston McCall, I assume." The principal gestured to me, and almost instantly, the "new" student turned around with wide eyes. I stared towards her, arching an eyebrow at how her eyes were boring into me. Soon, she turned back around as the principal continued, "And you all know Tara Sweets," Just as he did to me, he gestured towards "Tara" -- who I now knew, "Those two are currently residing in the same home. Now before you think that this is just some bland announcement, Scott McCall and others are missing, and they live with those two. So if you would, I'm sure they'd appreciate it if you made them a card or something."
What the hell? Really, a card? Oh sure, I have missing friends and a brother; a card is supposed to make up for that -- note the sarcasm. Tara released a groan up front at the same time that I did. I'm sure we both had mutual feelings about this whole card thing. The principal soon left, leaving Tara and I to be the ones in the spotlight. I could feel people's eyes on me as the period continued on, even as I was writing down some notes. Relief flushed through me when the same bell from before signaled that class was over. I picked up my bag, heading out the door quickly. My enhanced hearing picked up some people whispering about me, "-wants us to make a card for them? Please! It's not that important -- people barely know them." My anger began to rise in me, but I continued my pace towards my locker to withdraw books for next period. As I got to it, guess whose locker was next to mine? Tara's. The female did as someone normally would and opened her locker, acting almost as if I hadn't existed. I decided to do the same since I really didn't feel like talking unless I could scream at someone. Opening my locker, I switched my books in my bag and then shut it. "Why do you switch the books when you can just keep them in your bag?" Tara's voice fluttered through the air, attitude practically written all over it. "Because I want to." My hand curled around my locker, slamming it shut. I leaned on it, narrowing my eyes at my new housemate.
"It was just a question."
"And I answered it."
"Didn't have to sound like an ass!"
"Well, I did! Who's going to check me?"
"Maybe I will!"
"Tsk."
