I turned to my food to continue eating when I remembered that Keni had left. I quickly stood up,picked up my tray and that of Keni's and headed for the counter, where I dropped them. Stepping out of the cafeteria, I searched all the possible places she could be and found her seated on one of the garden benches on the lawn.

She had pulled her legs to herself and placed her head on her knees. Her body racking as she cried softly.. My heart broke. I walked across the lawn and sat next to her on the bench. I didn't say anything for about five minutes, it was best to allow her let it all out. A few minutes later her shoulders stopped shaking as her crying reduced to tiny sobs and sniffings.

"Are you okay? "

When she raised her head, I wasn't prepared for what I saw. Her eyes were all red and puffy, eyeliner and mascara seriously smudged across her face, her face streaked with long trails of tears, nose swollen and lips slightly bloody from biting so hard on them. She was a wreck.

"Do I look okay? " her voice sounded so scratchy and defeated as she tried to crack a weak smile at me.

It killed me and also strengthened my resolve : No falling in love for me. If this is what love did to people, I'm sorry I think I'll pass.

So I just pulled her in for a hug, wrapping my arms tightly around her as if to block out everyone and everything that could hurt her. We stayed like that for some time before I released her.

"You got tissue ?"

"Yeah" pulling out a pack of Kleenex for her.

"Thanks "

After she'd cleaned up her face, she crossed her legs on the bench and leaned her head on my shoulder.

"I loved him, you know "

"Yeah, but he was too stupid to realize that . You did pretty good in there though. I didn't know you had it in you "

She chuckled softly.

"Believe me when I say I don't know where all that came from "

"Sure " I laughed. "So what now? "

"Honestly I don't feel for school anymore. Just want to go home and don't bother coming with me, I'll be fine. "

"Ok, cool. Just make sure you don't do anything stupid alright? "

"I'm gonna go home and sleep this whole drama off"

Lies.

She was going to pull out a whole tub of ice cream and then watch Netflix, till she finally cried over what had happened properly and then.... Sleep the whole drama off.

Typical Keni.

"Yeah, you do that but lemme walk you to your car okay. I'll drop your stuff in my locker so don't worry about that "I said.
