Chapter 20

All of us stood there in utter shock, unable to process what had just occurred. This figure before us, its very breath was menacingly intimidating. Just by looking at him I felt raw power emanating from him. All of the news reporters were silent, as well as the large crowd of onlookers. But knowing those people were in serious trouble, I shook myself out of it, and got into my fighting stance, readying my staves.

The alien entity took notice, and turned to me, a sinister smirk growing upon his face. He laughed, "look at the weak little human with his little sticks. Do you actually think those will do anything at all?

I diverted from his demeaning question, and asked one of my own. "Why are you doing this? What could you possibly have to gain from destroying our planet? We haven't caused you any harm." His devilish smirk faded, and he shook his head in anger, letting out an animalistic roar that filled the empty air and echoed throughout the entire city.

"Because!" He began, his tone threatening and angered, "You pathetic humans are a complete waste of a species. You stand here everyday, bustling around, causing harm for others and destroying your own planet and society. Why waste such a resourceful planet on beings who don't even care for it, when we could populate it ourselves?"

I took a step forward, my heart racing as I came closer to the demonic figure. "That may be true about a lot of people. But that is why we, the heroes, are here. To help this planet grow and become better, by saving lives and stopping those who mean to cause others harm. There's no need to completely wipe out the population. There are innocent lives here."

He pondered on my speech for a moment, but it seemed to have left no effect on him as he turned back towards me, a raging fire in his eyes. "That may be so. But one does put their species before others."

He raised his massive arm, grasping hold of a black leather bar that seemed to protrude from behind his back, and pulled, revealing a monsterous alien cleaver.

He stood there for a moment, his dark gray skin absorbing all of the sunlight, his long white hair and beard flowing in the whispering breeze. His steel gray and maroon red armor piercingly effervescent. His weapon gripped by his strong hands. He struck fear into everyone. And just like that, in one swift leap and one mighty swing, he stabbed straight into Aqualad, his lowing red eyes staring into our friends, as he pulled the blade out of his chest. Kaldur lost his balance, and fell to the ground. We stood there, none of us moving, unable to process what had just occured.

"And that will not be the last.." Said Vehratrath in his deep gravelly voice, trailing off as he slowly stepped back, and jumped away. I bolted over to my friend, throwing my staves to my sides. A single tear slipped down his cheek as he lied there, grasping for air...breathing his last breath.
