Chapter 34
I didn't know what to do. Both the alien and machine stared at me, waiting for some sort of a reply. I could go along with this, maybe even gain their trust. Then I could take them down from the inside. "So if this is where you keep all if the cloned versions, where do you keep the real heroes?" I asked, acting as polite and truly interested as possible.
He waved his hand, "right this way, Brittany will show you the way, unfortunately I am needed elsewhere." He walked off as Brittany stared at me, awaiting my following her. I stepped up into the entryway, and she turned, leading me back down the way we had come, and then turning a few corners. Finally we arrived at a sealed room. Brittany opened the small slot on the massive door, and moved aside so that I could look through.
I was internally mortified by what I saw. Strapped, chained, trapped and hanging from tables and platforms, special cases and the ceiling were a conglomeration of the heroes that had AutoNomiton counterparts where we had just come from. "Why are you keeping them trapped here if you've already gotten them cloned?" I asked, turning to her.
"Because if they were to be released, they would come after us. And that would interfere with all of our plans. Once our plans have been fulfilled, however, the one that, like you, are worthy shall be kept from harm to repopulate this planet." She stared at me blankly as I digested her response. This couldn't be any more messes up than it already is. I thought, making sure to keep my face expressionless. "So...where do you keep Robin?" I added nervously. She cocked her head, then took a step forward, closer to me. "Ah, yes. The girl that lives with you, your 'best friend'. She is in a transformation chamber, having an AutoNomiton created after her as we speak."
I clenched my fists behind my back, wanting so badly to just get one good right-hook in. "You betrayed me you know. I really liked you. And then you go behind my back for this...this plan." I began to pace slowly. "I was merely doing what I was created to do- gain intel from a chosen member of your species. The side effects of which I cannot take responsibility for," she replied innocently enough.
"And why is it that Vehratrath took this burden upon himself to cleanse this universe?" She laughed, and then locked up. "I am not at liberty to relay this information to you." I frowned, "what? Why not!" Just then heavy steps sounded out from behind me, slowly approaching. "Because those are her orders." I turned around cautiously, Vehratrath's face was mere inches away from mine, and I knew that darkness itself was staring right into my very soul.
