Shut up I'm so original and creative you can't.
Okay let's do this.

Basically the whole apocalypse thing is based off of End of Days, which I read a little while ago. Here are the points that I took:
-There's a huge asteroid heading for Earth that can't be stopped or deterred
-If it hits Earth directly (which is what happens here) all life ends
-It is the year 2028 (Tyler and Josh should be around 39 years old)
-All cities are basically the realizations of a dystopian novel. Basically.
About Josh and Tyler's past... you can come to your own conclusions.

"Josh.. Come on, Josh. Wake up." Tyler anxiously tugged on Josh's grimy sleeve. "Wake up, Josh."
Josh stirred under his touch, eyes slowly flitting open.
"Tyler? What are you..." he sat up and leaned back against the wall, the bricks cold against his bruised back.
He shook his head, "How did you find me? Why did you even try? I thought-"
Tyler pressed his lips against his mouth, stifling his words. He cupped his head in his hands, gently pushing it back onto the wall. Josh protested softly, fingers scraping against the ground, and Tyler pulled away.
"2 hours, Josh." he whispered urgently, "It's been everywhere now, we have 2 hours until... well, you know."
"I know. 2 hours until we die." he smiled ruefully, "Is that why you came- for sex? I'm sorry to disappoint you after all this time, but no, not tonight. Not ever again."
Tyler leaned in and kissed him again, this time on the cheek, "You know I would never do that to you. I found you because I love you, and because you made me happy." He lay his forehead on Josh's chest, "I haven't been happy in so long and all I wanted to do was find you. Except now I think it's too late."
Josh absentmindedly ran his fingers through Tyler's hair. "It's not too late. Come on, get up."
He took his hand and slowly lifted the both of them to their feet, Tyler look at him quizically.
"I want to see you happy, I really do. It's not going to happen here, in a... shitty alleyway. Walk with me?" he extended his hand. Tyler took it tentatively, intertwining his fingers with Josh's. Together they left the small alley and headed toward the main road.
The ground was littered with trash, rocks, glass. It all crunched beneath their shoes as they walked in a solemn silence, unable to see most of it under the dark sky. Tyler stumbled by his side, and every few moments Josh would reach out to take hold of his arm and steady him.
"Oh, shit!" he suddenly stopped and turned to Tyler, eyes wide, "I'm sorry, I uh, left something back there and I gotta' go to get it, so just..." he faltered for a second as he let go of his hand, "wait for me?"
He turned and ran back they had come from, leaving Tyler standing mystified, watching the shadow of his retreating back. Slowly a smile began to form on his lips as he remembered.
"Crap, crap, crap- I left my drumsticks! Wait for me?"
He returned to Tyler with a box of matches and a candle in one hand, the other hastily shoving something into his pocket.
