The doe raised it's head quickly, startled. It lifted it's nose towards the sky to get a whiff of it's surroundings, checking that the coast was clear. Her ears flicked back and forth, trying to listen to it's gut that was sure of a predator around, but wanting to make sure first.
Which was strange in a Doe, maybe not a Stag. But it was odd for a Doe not to take flight when afraid or feeling the least bit unsure of whether or not they were safe. This Doe was brave, but bravery isn't a very good trait for Deer that cannot fend for themselves very well.
She slowly back up, still cautiously sniffing the air, before doing a 180 degree spin on her hind legs and taking off at a gallop into the bush. But not quick enough. A flash of grey jumped out from the nearby shrubbery and latched onto the Doe's hindquarters and rump with it's teeth and claws.
The Doe let out a strangled squeal as it toppled onto the ground, with the Wolf on top of it. When the wolf darted for the finishing kill at the neck, I brought myself to look away until I heard the wrestling stop.
"Well done Aries," I smile as I stand up and emerge from the bush I was hiding in, brushing myself of as I did so.
The wolf looked at me nonchalantly, but I could tell that he was happy with his catch. I offered to help carry the prize, and he didn't turn it down, so I shifted into my wolf and took a hold of it's rump whilst Aries carried him by his withers.
When I'm in my wolf form, I don't find it hard to watch wolves fight, attack and kill. I don't feel sick at the sight or smell of meat or blood. But when I'm in my human form, like any ordinary person in the right state of mind, I feel sick sometimes.
We got back to the stump where most of the pack was, the rest were off hunting individually, hoping to find something to bring back to pack. But they'll be back soon, they'll sense the happiness of their pack.
"Aries? Luna?" Shadow says in disbelief. It wasn't the kind of disbelief as in he couldn't believe WE of all people, or, um, Wolves, had caught the Doe. It was the kind of disbelief that there was a deer around.
Aries placed his kill in front of the rock Shadow was perched on, the rest of the pack sat behind the rock, peering eagerly around the sides with their ears forward and mouths drooling. Aries looks up at Shadow's eyes and just nods his head.
Shadow wasn't the pack leader, he was still quite young, he had a naturally slim body build. But he wasn't scrawny, he was healthy looking. The pack seemed to look upto him though, maybe because his father was the previous Alpha. But for now, the pack was alphaless. But Aries, he was a muscular Wolf. Not fat, but he was strong and had a much heavier build, and you could see it in his eyes, he was jealous of Shadow's power.
"It wasn't me, it's Aries' kill, I just witnessed it," I explain, not wanting any credit of it at all, because it probably looked like we caught the Doe together, when we did not.
Shadow glances at Aries with soft eyes. "You get first picks then, Aries,".
I felt my inner wolf smile, Shadow was so kind. He was fair and equal. Minutes later, the rest of the pack was feeding on raw deer flesh, I decided to pass. Being in my Wolf form it was fine to eat it raw, I just had dinner tonight with my family, so I didn't want to be rude to my family and not join in, so I just lay down on my belly, my head resting on my paws, next to Shadow, the rest of the pack was feeding on the carcass, except Sheba. She was lingering around the back with a small rib with a bit of meat hanging off the end, she wanted to make sure the young ones got first picks.
"Luna, there are other Wolves around," Shadow says, dropping the bone he was gnawing on.
I lift my head up off of my slightly dusty, white paws, I felt my ears prick forward with interest. "There are? Wyoming Wolves?"
Shadow shakes his thin dark gray face. "No, Luna, I think they're one of you. Not from your pack, from another,"
I stare at the ground in frustration, trying hard to think about why other packs my be lingering around here, what they may or may not be capable of doing. If they were a threat.
"How do you know of this? Did someone see them?" I question, this wasn't silly business. This was serious, we could be in real danger here.
Shadow nods his head in the direction of the carcass, staring at a light grey, so light it was almost white, and a white and black marking wolf that were called Evie and Husq. Evie being the light one and Husq the one with black and white markings.
"No, I could smell them, many of us can. Husq and Evie saw them, once," Shadow growls, not at me though, probably thinking about the outsider were-wolfs.
I let out a long growl. "What were they'd oing?"
Shadow explained to me that they were chasing Eternel Deer, towards the North, the direction of Wyoming. I felt anger rise in my chest.
"I have to tell the Etergreen pack*!" I exclaim, saying it maybe a little too loudly.
Shadow says that I mustn't say a word about his pack, the Wolves of Eternel forest, for I would be in trouble if my pack found out about me associating with the natural, pure Wolves.
"I'll tell them I could smell it,"
"But Luna, we wolves have better sense than you um... Human-Wolves,"
I sigh. "Shadow, I'm gonna have to do this, I'll just say it was luck, they were smelling pretty strong perhaps,"
Shadow grumbles his okay and I shift back into my human form. I wrap my arms around Shadow and hug him. "I have to go now, stay safe," I say before saying bye to everyone else and leaving to our pack meeting that had begun 5 minutes ago.
Thanks for reading again! Sorry about the bad grammar and stuff! I'll edit it when I can 🙈 Thanks again for reading !! It means a lot! By the way whenever you see one of these ' * ' next to a word like I did above "I have to tell the Etergreen pack*!" It means I will describe the word below so, here it is;
Etergreen pack- The were-wolf pack of Eternel Forest, also, the pack that Luna is in.
