I closed my eyes for a brief second, inhaling through my nose, and exhaling through my mouth before opening the front door to the house. I gently closed it behind me, just in case Mum and Dad were asleep. I didn't want to wake them, cause first off, they'd be pissed off at me for coming home so late, and second off, they'd want to know every single detail about the meeting.
As I walked down the hallway toward the kitchen, i heard murmuring. Mum and Dad were up. 'Great, just great,' I think as I rake my hands through my curly blonde hair. I felt a lump rise in my throat as Mum and Dad looked up at me. Here it comes, the concerned expressions, the worried tone, the hundreds of questions. Seriously, it's only 10 o'clock.
"Luna Grace DiLaurentis!" My mother says standing up quickly, her voice was filled with relief, but there was a hint of anger. "Do you know how long we've been waiting for you to come home?"
I shrugged my shoulders. "No," I mumble as both my parents stand up and walk towards me.
My dad rubs my shoulder as mum yelled. "Since bloody 7 o'clock!"
I laughed and shook my head. Does it look like I wanted them to wait for me to get home? "Mum, I'm fine, I just ran a little late to the meeting, then I had to walk home,"
Mum folded her arms across her chest, a scowl plastered across her face. "Luna," She sounded completely lost as she said my name, as if she had forgotten that my name was Luna almost. "You could of texted us to let us know!"
I placed my hands on my hips, probably looking like a little know it all as I stared at dad. "You tell her Dad, sometimes the most obvious solution just doesn't pop into your head," I say, egging my Dad on to back me up with a stare. "...not that I thought there had to be a solution," I mumbled low enough for Dad to hear but not Mum, as she was leaning against the kitchen table whereas dad was right next to me.
"Luna..." She let out a frustrated sigh. "I'll let you off this time, but remember, it isn't the first... Or second... Or third actually, time that you've come home late from just a meeting,"
I smiled at her gratefully. "Thanks Mum,"
"Now, what's going on at the meeting?" Dad questions. Uh-oh. Quick Luna! Think of something so that it sounds as though you were actually there! Not with the Wolves!
"Uhmmmm,"
Mum tapped her fingers on the kitchen table, pressing her lips together before eventually speaking. "Uhmm?"
I shake my head, making it look as if I was snapping out of a day-dream, when really I was thinking of what to say. The truth. A voice in my head said. I mentally shrugged and opened my mouth the speak.
"There are other wolves in our territory," I say plainly shrugging.
Mum rolled her eyes. "Of course there are, there's savaging wolves all through the Eternal forest, eating all of the Eternal deer," Mum said, the familiar horrid scowl crossing her face.
I shake my head and glance at dad, who was deeply engaged, waiting to listen to what I had to say. "Not.... REAL wolves..." I say emphasising the REAL part.
Dad let out a groan and dropped his head into his hands. He stayed like that for a long time. Mum stared at the ground, a tear slid down her cheek, she stayed like that for a long time.
I stared at them in disbelief. "Am I missing something here? I know that it's bad and all... But why are you guys all upset?"
Mum shook her head as she blinked the tears away. Dad gave me a small smile after picking his head up out of his hands. "Just go to bed honey, it's nothing, we're just worried for you,"
For the second time in less than 3 minutes I stared at my parents, two of the few people in the world I trust, with disbelief. They were lying. I could feel it. What was going on? Why were they upset?
"Something's not right," I say softly under my breath as I exited the room and stomped up the stairs noisily. Making a point that I was huffy at them. And just before I was all the way up the stairs I heard my mother whisper.
"Yes, something's not right. If only you knew,"
