Chapter 2: Pilot Pt 2

Zayda's POV:

As we walked to class, me and Avalon met up with Valencia and Madeline. I smiled as we all went in for a group hug. We pulled away and Madeline chuckled, "so did you two survive lunch without us?" Avalon slouched and slugged over, arms dangling at the floor, "ugh it was torture!" Val, Madeline, and I laughed; she stood and joined in, "just kidding it wasn't so bad, you two missed it though. We met a girl today named Brier. She was really sweet, turns out she was in an accident a month ago and was in a coma. She woke up from it last week." Valencia and Madeline looked at me, and I nodded to confirm we had.

Madeline didn't say anything for a while and just tilted her head and scrunched her eyebrows, "you said she woke up a week ago? Surprising how the doctors let her return so quickly, that just seems kinda sus you know?" Valencia swatted the air, "pfft as if Mad, you're just thinking to much into it, I'm glad she's ok, it sucks how we couldn't meet her. I guess we'll have to wait til next year."  Avalon agreed and took Valencia's arm and started telling her all about Brier; me and Madeline just stood there for a bit and looked at each other.
I was the one to speak on it first, "I'm glad it's not just me who finds it a little suspicious. Puts me more at ease." She smiled and took my arm, "oh yeah you're definitely not the only, hopefully we just have it all wrong." She said, as we caught up with our friends on our way to our last class for the day.

As we finally approached the musical arts hall, the bell rang, our teacher Ms. Dawn greeted us in the hallway and smiled, "good afternoon girls," we smiled back and Avalon hugged her, "good afternoon mom." Her mother smiled at her and raised her eyebrows, "did you take your medicine today?" Avalon slouched "yes mom I did, I don't understand what's so important about it anyway." Her mom gave her a look and Avalon quickly apologized, Ms. Dawn then turned to the three of us and crossed her arms as she said, "And did you three take yours as well too? Right?" The three of us looked at each other and said "yeah." She nodded and looked.. sort of relieved?  "Ok good. Taking it is really important you hear me?" All of us looked at each other and Avalon looked annoyed, "yes mom we understand trust me." Her mom sighed, "ok I'm sorry girls I'm just making sure ok?" We nodded that we understood and she turned towards me, Madeline, and Valencia, "could you three please tell your mother's to text me in the morning?" We nodded and told her we'd do just that.

As we were about to head in the classroom I heard Avalon tell us to wait as she turns to her mom, "do you think I could join Mad and the rest of my buds after school to take Zay home?" Her mom looked at us and back at Avalon, thought for a while and finally caved in, "ok fine you can, since it's the last day of school why not." We all squealed and jumped up and down. I walk over and hug Ms. Dawn, "ah! Thank you so much Ms. Dawn!" I release her and join my friends in walking into the classroom.

Once we walked into the chorus room, we put our stuff down and got what we'd need for class, then put our phones in our assigned phone pocket that was hanging on the wall, and walked onto the risers. The final bell rang and Ms. Dawn walked in and closed the door behind her, she walked to her desk and called attendance, she went through the half the class and finally, said "Chloe Wendyln?" ... "here!"... she pushed her rolling chair back and walked up to the front of the classroom, "ok class! Seeing how it's the last day of school I'm giving you free time the rest of the day until the bell rings! You're allowed to have your phones but please no recklessness. I'm talking to you Aiden." She called out, as He looked to be imitating a monkey; me and the girls laughed, Aiden slouched and asked to go to the men's room, as he walked off embarrassed.

Avalon and I went to grab our phones, She decided to grab Madeline's and I grabbed Valencia's, we walked back to where they were sitting on the floor and handed them their phones, I unlocked mine and opened Mattpad. Madeline looked up from hers and smiled, "we're all on Mattpad too right?" We all laughed and agreed, Valencia smiled, "oh my goodness this is great, I'm just going to stay on it til the bell rings." We laughed, I nodded in agreement, and went back to the novel I was reading.

An hour goes by and we get startled by the bell, I look over to Valencia and see her fumble to catch her phone, "haha having trouble Val?" I smile and laugh. Madeline and Avalon look at her and laugh too. Valencia finally catches her phone and smiles nervously, "ugh of course! As soon as I get to a seggsy part of the story the bell has to ring!" Madeline laughs and dramatically places the back of her hand on her forehead, "oh the torture!" Valencia just glares at her unamused by her sarcasm. Avalon and I laugh, "c'mon you two we gotta get going, it looks like it's going to rain, and we all know how much Mad doesn't like driving in it." She says as she helps Valencia up. Madeline and I look out the window; sure enough, silver clouds coat the sky. I get up and help Madeline up too. We gather our stuff and head out the door.

As we walk together down the hallway I turn my head towards Avalon, "I'm so glad your mom allowed us to take you home!" Madeline and Valencia smile. Avalon returns it, "I know right? I am too! I've missed riding with you guys everyday, I'm so glad I'm able to!" Valencia jumps up and down and turns her head towards Avalon, "ahhh I'm so glad we have you back- OH! I don't know if Zay filled you in, but we are putting all our money together and planning a beach trip this summer, you want to join!?" Avalon turned her attention to Valencia and smiled, "oh yes! she actually told me at lunch and I'd be happy too! I just got to let my mom know and I'll text you guys in the group chat!" Valencia squealed, and Madeline plugged her ear and glared at her, "I love you Val, but please stop squealing." She laughed as she took her fingers out her ears. Valencia returned her glare and gave her pout, "ugh fine. But why must you be a mood destroyer?" Madeline gave her an unamused look; laughed and poked her head gently, "I'm not a mood destroyer Val, I have a headache." Valencia pursed her lips and nervously laughed, "oh.. haha sorry Mad, my bad" she said as she scratched her head and we continued out the doors to the student parking lot. We got to the car and all climbed in. I rested my head on the window, sleep consumes me as the girls talked about our beach trip plans.

I jolt awake and Avalon looks at me, "that was a quick nap, but perfect timing cause Mad is about to pull into our neighborhood." I yawn and look out the windshield, and fair enough she was right. Valencia looks back to see if I'm awake and smiles, "perfect timing Zay! We're pulling into your driveway now." I smile and rub the sleep from my eyes and yawn, "ugh I didn't realize how exhausted I was, I kinda wish I didn't fall asleep. I'm sorry guys." Avalon pats me on the shoulder as Madeline looks in the review mirror and smiles, "you don't have to apologize. You needed it." I return her smile and gather my stuff as she's pulling in and puts her car in park. I open my door and tell the girls I'll talk to them later. As Madeline is pulling out my driveway I see that strange girl in my Peripheral, walking by again.. I blink and shake my head and tell myself I'm just tired and need a nap. I walk up my driveway and up the steps, I take out my house keys and unlock the door, "hmm my mom must not be home. Good thing my brother isn't here, nor my annoying sister." I say to myself out loud. I go to the kitchen and get something small to snack on, I go upstairs to my room and shut the door, I take my shoes off and then change out of my school uniform. Once I'm done I get under my covers and lay my head on my pillow, I open my phone and continue to read where I left off, and as soon as I start reading the next chapter sleep consumes me, and I'm out like a light.
