Chapter 4
Everything was perfect.
It has been two months since John had asked me to be his girlfriend. In those two months, we have been labeled as “the perfect couple”. He took me out to dinner at least once a week. He would also do these gentlemanly things that I never thought guys would still be doing in this century. Killian and Kaitlyn still had their doubts on John, but I just shrugged it off. They’d learn to accept him eventually.
But I should’ve known our relationship was too good to be true.
Today was a Friday, which meant John and I would be having dinner together. Today was different though. Instead of being at the threshold of our classroom just like always, he told he was just going to pick me up at my house tonight. This made me worry, but I tried my best not to think about it. Maybe he was just busy, I thought. These days have been pretty busy for me, after all. Maybe it was the same for him.
I walked towards his classroom to check up on him. He has been checking up on me, so I thought it was just right to return the favor. However, as I got closer to his classroom, I saw people giving me weird looks. Come on! Don’t tell me the rumors are still running. I thought we were all past the “Have you heard? This weird quiet freak is dating the school jock” phase.
Oh well, I thought. Haters gonna hate. I gave them a small smile and continued my way to John’s room. The doors were locked, but I could hear John’s voice inside the room. There was no way I could mistake that. It was a good thing I knew how to pick locks. Let’s just say I was a really weird-acting kid back then. But when I opened the door to reveal who was inside, I wish I just did as John told.
My blonde boy was at the corner, hungrily kissing a tan girl with blonde hair and blue eyes. I knew that bitch. She was Natasha Brown, the co-captain of the cheerleading squad.
“Nice catch, Anders,” I yelled, catching their attention. The two blondes pulled back and saw me, standing by the door with a big fake smile plastered on my face. Natasha the bitch blushed and looked away while John just stood there completely flabbergasted. I gave him my knowing smirk and tsked him.
“She’s pretty Anders,” I said. “If she was so hot that you couldn’t stay away from her, why didn’t you just break up with me?”
“Marcia, I can-,” he muttered.
“Oops!” I laughed bitterly. “Muttering, Anders, you know how much I hate people who mutter. Besides, I don’t need or want an explanation from you. Your action spoke louder than any of your words.”
“Marcia,” I heard him murmur as I walked out of the room.
I should’ve seen that coming. I should’ve known that he was just playing with me. I mean, who am I kidding? I am Marcia Maspion! I have a reputation for being the most passive girl who barely has a social life! Why did I even think that he would grow feelings for me?
Congratulations, John Patrick Anders, you just made the quiet girl into a foolish, lovesick teenage girl.

“Dammit, Marcia!” Killian yelled as he shook me hard. I pushed him away from me and fiddled with my fingers.
A month has passed since I broke up with John. A month has passed since I kicked that bastard out of my life. The days after that was basically a blur. I studied more than I ever thought I would in my life. I have been eating a ton of junk food, and my friends have been telling me I’ve been bitter.
