"Where the hell have you been?" Kristopher demanded by the time I got to his apartment. Evan and I chatted a lot on the way back, and it kind of slowed my driving down. And no, we didn't do anything we're not supposed to do, thank you very much.
"Well, I obviously wasn't here," I replied sarcastically. When I saw Kristopher open his mouth, I raised my hand to stop him. "I was with Anne, don't worry."
"Uhh, no you weren't," he said. "I checked out Anne's profile. Her status was about spending New Year with her family. Now where were you, Marcia?"
Anne Tsiu, I really hate you sometimes.
"You wanna know the truth? Fine! I was with Evan Lewis," I said. Sometimes Kris can be a bit overprotective and pushy. That's one thing I hated about him. I mean, who likes having your older brother pester around them anyways?
"Lewis?" he asked dubiously. "You didn't-?" He didn't finish that sentence. I didn't let him. I knew exactly what he meant.
"Eww, Kristopher, no!" I exclaimed. "I didn't do anything specifically wrong!"
Kris made a gesture, telling me to calm the heck down. "Okay, okay, I'm sorry."
I rolled my eyes and put my feet up the couch. I was going to be sleeping here in the end, after all.
"So how did your meeting with Nikki's parents go?" I ask. He gave me a small smile.
"I don't think they were very fond of me at first. After all, I have a reputation for being a huge playboy. But when I reassured them that I would never hurt her, I think they found me rather acceptable."
"And you're just okay with that?" I asked in disbelief. "If I were you, I'd do my best to not just reassure, but show them how much you care about their daughter."
I was too tired to deal with Kris's protests, so I just went to sleep almost immediately.

"Marcia, you would not believe what Killian told me," Kaitlyn said. Classes were unfortunately back, and I was with Kaitlyn eating lunch. Killian had to eat with his parents.
"Oh god," I replied. "Please don't tell me Killian just told you he likes you. You know that-."
"Ew, no! He didn't say that!" Kaitlyn exclaimed. "It's about Emily Peters."
That caught my attention. What did Emily want from Killian? Wasn't slapping him in the face enough for her?
"Killian kissed her on the cheek,"Kaitlyn said. "She pushed him away, and apparently, someone saw."
Oh no. This can't be good. Killian hated dealing with rumors, especially when they were true and extremely controversial. He had a good reputation to uphold. Killian was the son of two highly-respected professors at the school's University. His parents could easily find out if he did something wrong.
"Is that why he's having lunch with his fam?" I asked. Kaitlyn took a bite of her donut, shrugging. "I don't know, really. The lunch is probably just a thing his parents feel like doing."
I shrugged and took a bite of my own sandwich. Killian, why did you have to do that?

It was four 'o clock, which meant that dismissal was near. I was grabbing my bag, getting ready to get the hell out of here.
But then Janice came.
"Marcia, hold on a second," she said. I stopped, mentally groaning. Why? I needed to play Skate 3 right now!
"We need someone from the class to teach them the chant we have to perform for the competition," she explained. "And we all agreed that you should do that."
Mixed emotions flooded through me. One of them was confusion. Why on earth would they pick me? The chant competition was one of the biggest competition of the sophomores! Do they really want to lose that bad?
I wanted to say no. After all, there were a lot more people who would be willing to take the responsibility. Bt the responsible good girl inside me told me to just agree and suck it up. The class needed me. Plus, it was my grades at stake here.
"Fine," I said quietly. "But if we lose, I have nothing to do with it."
***
"No, dammit, no!" I groaned in frustration, silencing half of the class. It has already been an hour since we commenced our first practice, and things have not been so well. My co-leader, Katrina, did finish the piece itself, but not how the chant should be said. I didn't know what to do either. How am I supposed to teach them hpw to chant if the chant itself isn't finished?
The outbursts start pouring in. Aren't you the leader? Why didn't you finish the chant? That's your job! This practice makes no sense! You're a terrible leader!
Fuck you; all of you.
"You know what? Since you guys are just being a bunch of unproductive, overly dependant kids, I think we'll just have to call practice off for today." I snapped. Without another word, I grabbed my backpack and headed to the school bus, where the people I least felt the need to see were.
"Oh my gosh, Marcia, just the girl I needed to see!" Mandy squealed. Ugh, great. Just what I needed, a bunch pf gossip girls all over me.
Just then, I received a text from Evan.
I have this weird-gut feeling you're having a shitty day.
I smiled and sent him a reply.
Your gut was right.
"Is that Evan?" Mandy squealed again. Ugh, why can't she leave me alone? I want to be alone! "Oh, timing! I was just about to tell you something about him!"
I looked at her, annoyed. "What?"
"Okay," she started. "I was invited to Evan's family's Christmas party, so of course I went. I had a talk with Evan himself, and he asked if you were alright!" She paused a bit to squeal. "He was really concerned about you! He asked if you were alright, why you didn't talk much on the bus. Oh my gosh, Marcia, you should've seen his face!"
I blushed slightly. Evan was... concerned about me? But why? Why would he be wasting his time asking Mandy how I was doing? And why Mandy? He knew I didn't really talk with the guys on the bus.
"He likes you!" she declared, making me blush harder. No! That's not possible. Evan didn't like me that way, right?
"Oh yeah?" I challenged her. "How are you so sure about that?"
"It's obvious, silly! He's always talking about you. He willingly kissed you. He's always asking people around you if you're alright. Evan would probably jump to the moon and back just to make sure you're okay!"
I sighed to calm myself down. No, I told myself. You can't let yourself fall into this trap again. After all, compliments were what put me into my mess with John. What if Evan was like that? What if he'll just break me in the end, the same way John did? What if Harriet was wrong, and I will regret it in the end?
