"Jungkook, I think you're doing amazing."

I looked up from my smoothie. "What?"

Hyemi places a hand on my back. "I said, I think you're really improving."

Where have I heard that before?

Oh, right.

Nowhere.

No one has ever said that to me.

All of what Hyemi says to me...

Was always a first for me.

"Jungkook? Jungkook?"

I snapped my head to Hyemi, who was looking at me with concern.

"Jungkook, you sure do space out a lot." She giggles softly and takes a sip of her lemonade.

"Ah...I'm sorry." I cleared my throat and went back to awkwardly staring at my drink.

"Are you alright?"

Do I answer with "I'm fine"?

Because that's what everybody does.

Because not only that they want to hide their feelings.

But they don't think anyone would care.

No one has ever checked up on me.

Not my parents.

I don't have siblings.

My teachers hate me.

I have Hyemi now.

And I really do think she cares for my answer.

She also knows me.

She would know if I lied.

Because I could see through her lies.

She could see through mine.

"I think I'm feeling so much better now." I gave her a crooked smile.

Was I?

Or was that something Hyemi wanted to hear?

"That's awesome to hear!" She chirped. "I'm really glad you're turning over a new leaf. I'm glad your leaving your past behind to be different."

I am changing.

I'm not who I was before.

I wasn't even this nice before I understood the world.

I was never this nice.
